My apologies for the long post... I had a few friends in school but I did feel lonely for the most part... so I don't have much nostalgia for my early early education. That said, I do have some nostalgia for my early college days. I made some acquaintances in some classes and kept running into them over time and we became friends. I didn't start making a good chunk of friends until I started taking Japanese classes. That became "the crew" haha. We'd finish a class and just go grab some lunch at the food court. Honestly... Good times. I think part of the reason I felt nostalgia for those days was that, generally speaking, everything was going relatively well. I was taking a BUNCH of classes, and I remember kinda freaking out a bit every single time I'd get my schedule set up and after going to each class for the first time... but I managed to get good grades, at least. On the social side of things, well, I would hang out with my friends mostly when we were on campus but we would often go to the movies, or some convention or another... Looking back, it honestly really was a simpler time. Over the years, though, each of my friends graduated and went to do their own thing... and the circle became smaller and smaller (still keep in contact with some of them at least!) See the reason why I "stayed behind" while everyone else graduated was that I sorta... fumbled around when it came to deciding just what the heck I was going to do with my life. Didn't know if I wanted to go into psychology fully or what, but I eventually decided to go to medical school. That's when things became... not *quite* as smooth. See, the classes you have to take as prerequisite to even apply to medical school aren't exactly "easy", at least not for me! I failed two classes: organic chemistry and general chemistry... and I struggled with the calculus classes. This was in stark contrast with the classes I took during my first year and second years of college, which were mostly psychology courses... y'know, behavior analysis, psychoanalysis, etc... in addition to the aforementioned Japanese classes (which included Japanese culture classes). These were all very easy, and it helped that I was very interested in the material itself. When it came to those other science courses... well, let's just say I was not all that thrilled about getting alkenes from alcohol and some other such reactions... lol. Physics was interesting, though, and I did do well on those classes! Same with anatomy and physiology. Anyways, I'm sorry for the massive tangent, but... all of that was to just say that I do "get" how someone might feel nostalgic about going to school. Part of it was my friends, but looking closer at it, part of it really was the sort of "structure" of it, of going to school, that is. I refer to setting a goal for yourself and getting there little by little. At that time, it was getting through the prerequisite courses and applying for medical school. Nowadays, well... I'm in residency now, so I'm nearing the end of this part of my journey, and it's kinda scary, not gonna lie! I've been living my whole life with SOME sort of goal in mind: get through early education, get through college, get through medical school, get through residency... and now... well, after residency that's kinda it for "concrete" goals. Of course, I recognize, now more than ever, that medical education never ceases. New research occurs every day and we challenge our previously held beliefs and treatment guidelines often. You have to stay on your toes and keep up with the literature. That said... it's really not the same sort of structure as, say, being in school... AGHHH THIS IS SO LONG I'M SORRY IF YOU READ THROUGH ALL THAT!

Back in the days, dragging on my ass to get to shower, rushing to school before 7 am, 6 days a week. Just to get to university, getting bad degrees, dropping out. Back in uni again after 4 years, no friends, no money. And after that I have to dragging out my ass again to get job. It's a never ending cycle.

It would be boring and pointless. You cant make things better in the past. You can make things better in the future. Dwelling on the past makes the future worse than the present!

I think people miss school like middle school and highschool because all the responsibility you had was to go to school and possibly other extra curricular activities dictated by your parents. Everything such as money, transportation, food, taxes, roof over your head, was your parents' responsibility.

I dislike school because half the courses you have to take are fluff. the other half are courses relating to your field and courses that helps your career but not related to the field. Only good thing from school is networking and getting help from the professors and assistants.
