I know I'm a bit late to the party but I decided to wait till the anime ended to complete this video so that I could cover the entire story of frieren from start to finish. This video took a while to make so I would honestly appretiate if you could consider subscribing. ^^ Also comment your own opinions on the frieren anime. I'll be back next month with hopefully an even better video than this one...

My favorite animated bits are the small mundane ones, like on 9:04 how Fern smoothes her skirt before she sits down on the stool, or how she slips on the snow covered roof but Stark grabs her arm and manages to keep them both from falling off. But my most favorite by far is the way they animated Frieren excitedly jumping off the bed to open her suitcase to look for the clothes dissolving potion.

honestly, you can take 2 moments from it, put it one next to another, and make anyone telling about how good animation in thier favourite anime is to shut up. those moments are Stark puting his jacket on in EP 9 and the moment of EP 10, when Aura drops the sword on the ground after telling she won and the tip of the sword get dirty. those two short moments look better than in absolute most of modern MOVIES, except those rare ones using practical effects. and what's make them even more absurd is that those moments are NOT important.

2023 was already a great year for anime but Frieren pushed it over the edge into one of the greatest years in anime history

I'll be honest. this anime got me real good. and is one of the anime's that i don't want to read the manga. and thanks to you explaining how this series was animated. i am willing to wait 5 years if we get a season 2 with the same quality as the season 1.
@tama53807 ай бұрын
i know youre not undermining the manga in any shape or form, but not reading the manga will be a very big missed oppurtunity. The manga contains some of the most refined art in manga as well as some of the most genius panelling and storytelling in the manga medium. Theres a reason why the producers picked the series up with just 1 chapter and invested so much on a talented stuff where the manga wasnt arguably as popular as other series like shonen jump mangas around that time. The manga excels in just as many factors as a manga like the anime and the longtime frieren fans also hold both in the same pedastal.

thanks for putting together this video. I really appreciate the background stories that I didn't know about the production and *ahem* the degen fan base stuff. I loved every frame of the season 1 but man, when Frieren's hair was flying fiercely as she faced her clone in the last chamber of the king's tomb - I can't stop watching

I remember last year I was searching for animes to watch mainly slice of life. I come across the video recommending this Frieren anime that is about an elf that walks thru life while reminiscing about the time she spent with her comrades. I thought its just another adventure monster slaying type of anime again which we have so many all ready so forget it. Then muse asia started airing it on KZbin for free. Watched it. And wow. No regrets. Its just one one hundredth among the anime we have watched but it makes a difference.

So, Frieren is boring. That seems to be the point. When looking through Frieren's eyes, she has been there done that. When you look through anyone else's eyes, you see how amazing the world is. But those first episodes are exclusively through Frieren's perspective. When you end up looking from Fern's eyes, you feel frustrated and worried. She has a drive to show her father that when he is gone, she will be okay. Then you see her transition to doing many the same thing for Frieren. Stark sees a scary world and only seems to want to be safe. But he is a man, by any definition. He steps up when he has no other choice. He helps everyone around without releasing how much he's doing for them. He knows that he has to protect his squishys because even when he is afraid, his master taught him how to win. So yeah, the series is amazing and beautiful, but mostly boring, at least to Frieren.
@lexdalan90335 ай бұрын
Lmfao this is an honest criticism with blunt sarcasm about a character. Not gonna lie, you do have a point but you didn't need to roast Frieren that hard by calling her boring 🤣

Let me tell you, the manga does get any worse after the first season. If madhouse gets the time they need to cook, we could get fights on the level of JJK and storytelling on the level of episode 10 all over again. I hope to see a s2 announcement within the decade, although preferably not soon. Don’t want another MAPPA incident…

@zoam78817 ай бұрын
There is a lot of world building in that arc. You learn a lot about the history of magic and how it works. It also introduces characters that we will see again and that Frieren is interacting with the world instead of just floating through life.

The difference between Frieren and Chainsaw Man is that Chainsaw Man is a dumb story with shallow characters whose most memorable aspects are one female character's toilet habits and another's dommy mommy energy... but with a really high animation budget. Frieren, on the other other hand, is actually a story that would be good even with a lesser budget, but given a AAA team and budget elevated it to an all-time great.
