When I shop for glass, I go to the linens first and put a couple of towels in the bottom of my cart before adding any gLass to the cart to prevent chips. Once I'm at the checkout, I put the towels back on the shelf.

I do something similar. I put reusable bags in the cart then leave them at check out. But today I bought them because I actually love the two bags. And at 30% off I couldn't resist.

When cabbage patch dolls first came out I was a buyer for a junior chain of clothes. In the New York mart I saw what appeared to be a hospital slash adoption agency. Very unusual for a clothing mart. Inside there were nurses in white uniforms and doctors also appropriately dresses. In order to enter their “booth” you had to sign in. You filled out paperwork to prove you would be a good parent. After that you were introduced to baby cabbage patch dolls. You were matched up with your new baby. It was adorable and I had to get one. You could only adopt one a day. When I flew home I made sure my sweet baby was secured in a seatbelt. We still have her.

One thing I always look for in glassware is a signature and also a "punt" mark on the bottom. A punt mark is where a glassblower popped the piece off his glass-blowing tool. A punt mark you can see where they broke it off, but then they still smooth it off some. If it has a punt mark it was artisan or studio made. If you don't see that and it has a very smooth bottom, or sometimes you'll see seams on the side, that's were they blew the glass into a mold, that's much more of a production technique and doesn't require as much artistry. I love those "flow/lava" ceramic glazes as well. Manufactures HATE them, because if they flow like that, they can also cause problems in the kiln where it flows onto the firing shelf and sticks and has to be broken off and cleaned up. Manufacturers much prefer plane satin or matte glazes that are more stable and dont cause firing problems, but they're also more boring. One thing I do with some of the more plain little cache pots or event soup bowls, etc., you can order a set of diamond tipped hole bits from Amazon, drill a hole in the bottom and pretty easily turn them into a real planter.

Doesn't it cost right much to ship it to people who buy it?
@barbaracreel27773 жыл бұрын
Do you auction it off or sell on Amazon or ebay?
@DaniGurl0012 жыл бұрын
@@barbaracreel2777 usually it's cheaper to ship through whatever platform you sold it on. They're able to get a big discount for having so much shipped. For example, I was able to print labels through Facebook marketplace when I've sold stuff on there, it was way cheaper than going in and buying the shipping label myself.
@treasurepedlar2 жыл бұрын
It's not just eye. . . . it also comes with lots of practice shopping, watching videos like this one, and making bad buys and learning from them. I do NOT have a very good eye for stuff, but i feel pretty confident about what to look for because of the immense amount I've learned on KZbin. You will get better fast if you just keep at the learning a little bit each day, I guarantee it!
@treasurepedlar2 жыл бұрын
@@barbaracreel2777 Shipping is getting more and more expensive, but most of us charge shipping to the buyers on our listings. Like someone said below, platforms like eBay, Etsy, Facebook Marketplace, etc., have negotiated shipping rates with the major shipping providers that are steeply discounted and can be passed on to our buyers. It helps a lot.

You are such a lovely person and so considerate when you place items back where they belong. I love that! Congratulations on the new house and all your beautiful granite choices. Love your cats, too,, Bandit cracks me up! He does love that 3 tiered toy! As far as that gold hobnail star bowl you found at goodwill, it certainly does look like Imperial, and I know some of their items are not marked, but it could very well be L.E. Smith glass. You found an interesting assortment of things on this trip! I’m not usually excited by onyx pieces for myself - I think they can look very nice in other people’s homes. That one had such pretty colors in it, it almost made me a convert! Love the huge Williams Sonoma bowl/platter. I have one of the Wexford butter dishes and it’s my favorite! I love it because it’s just the right size, looks nice enough on the table or counter and it stores easily since it doesn’t have a knob on top - just turn the top upside down onto the bottom when not in use and it takes up less space and doesn’t slide around to be broken. I’ve thought a few times that I should just ditch the others I have and buy a second Wexford - one to use and one to be in the dishwasher! Your house is coming right along and I agree - it actually makes a huge difference to have the flooring out! It’s going to be so pretty! Hope your Christmas was a lovely one and your hubby was feeling better!
