Focus is one of the few if not only bands that received a standing ovation on The Midnight Special. The vocalist still tours to date at small venues like fairs. The band is from Holland, they're Dutch. The lead guitarist was considered one of the BEST rock guitarist in the world.

I saw Focus live in 1972. Prog rock is probably the best description of their genre. They were phenomenal. This song is a mickey take really. Try Sylvia. Top Dutch band with worldclass musicians. Yes he was yodelling.

This is like a shock to most people the first time they see/hear this performance! It's not the average song so to speak i mean in how many rock songs you hear some dude yodel, whistle while playing the Hammond B3 and playing the flute!! Gotta say it took me some listenings before i started to like the song.

They had a seven minute song and four minutes of TV time. They did not want to cut the song shorter, they just played the song a lot faster.

There was a lot of “unusual” music in the 70s and this one certainly ranks up there. Wherher it’s everyone’s cup of tea or not, it’s awesome that musicians felt comfortable with doing just whatever the heck they felt like

Technically it was probably considered rock back then, but it's definitely more progressive and experimental. I look at this as the precurser to bands like Yes and songs like Changes.

Focus was one of the best Dutch progressive bands from the 70’s. Thijs van Leer, the singer, is a classically trained musician and flutist and the guitarist Jan Akkerman was at that time considered to be the best guitarist in the world, at least by quite a few people. Find some more of Focus, it is really good music ones you get used to the weirdness of it.

The Midnight Special was an amazing show back in the day...but this episode ran long and being live, they only had four minutes to do a seven minute song...but they did it. Great performance and it was definitely a challenge for the band...

It was originally 6m 4s and they cut several verses to broadcast making it 4m 5s - both versions on KZbin. All live versions they did fast. Check out BBC.

If you're getting into classic rock, you're gonna want to react to Meatloaf, Paradise by the Dashboard Light. it's...intense. Another one that takes you on a total journey is Frankenstein by Edgar Winter Group, the long, live version. Then jump into the 90s for The Three Little Pigs by Green Jelly. All of these will blow your mind.

I bought my first record in London in 1960 and "Love Remembered" by Focus is one of my Top 10 favourite songs/ Play it in silence,in the dark and imagine you are in the desert. It is Beautiful. " Sylvia" was their biggest hit.

I was trying to say that I have bought records in London since 1960( from memory "Are You Lonesome Tonight" by Elvis and "Blue Moon by The Marcels ) and in all that time, over these last 64 years that "Love Remembered" is in my Top 10 favourite songs. I saw them in Concert in 1972/73 at The Cridon Greyhound Pub/Music Venue with 3,000 others in South East London.

Back in the late 60s and most of the 70s a lot of bands didn't really conform to genres. Instead, they played whatever they wanted to, so a band may have 1 track that was pure rock, another more prog rock, and even some that would be classed as folk, and often on the same album.

No, Hocus Pocus is definitely not serious. Focus camped this one up every time they performed it, whether at concert or on TV. And they never did it any one way twice. Btw, Thijs van Leer was warming/psyching himself up at the beginning because they were about to belt it out in just a little over half the time due to broadcast constraints.

My favourite story about this song is this, it was the Nike theme song for the South African World Cup. Nike didn't bother to invite the group down to watch the tournament, likely being too impoverished.

@@CarbonnothingbutcarbonYes he did, but came back in 1975 for a tour. He joined in 1977 on a single concert because the drummer at that time didn’t show up. And he was also back for a reunion show in 1990. And since 2004 till today. He’s 78 years old now, and still play drums for Focus in 2024.
