Hello Nate , i hope you are doing well. Another great video, great treatment. Nate you are honestly the best hoof trimmer I have ever seen on KZbin. I say this with all my sincerity. In terms of your hand skills, the fact that your knives are always razor sharp, your approach to animals and the care you show them after the procedure make you by far the best. I'm not even talking about your relaxing voice 😅. Nate, I have a few questions for you, buddy: 1.) One of the things I'm most curious about is, can you use anesthesia for trimming ? I don't know Spanish, maybe they could be veterinarians, but in some of the Latin channels I watch, trimmers use drugs , anesthesia and perform some surgical interventions. They anesthetize the cow's leg and perform surgical interventions on living tissues. Can you intervene like this in an emergency and have you ever had an experience like this ? 2.) Is there a relationship between the structure of the cow's hooves (hardness, amount of extension, susceptibility to a certain type of problems like ulcers, white line problems... ) and the breed of the cow? Because I've seen many different types of hooves on the many channels I watch. Some are soft, some can be hard as rocks. Is this situation due to genetics or is it related to human reasons such as the soil characteristics of the dairy farm, closed-free feeding type? Greetings from Turkey Nate , love you buddy. Will see you in the next videos .

I live in the countryside in the east of the UK (East Anglia) and where I live the dairy cows are in grassy meadows and they all look lovely and clean. Whenever I watch hoof trimmers either from here or the US the animals are all kept on concrete and seem to spend all their time having to stand in their own piss and shit. If they didn't have to do that maybe their hoofs might not get so infected, plus all that filth can't do the quality of the milk much good.

This is gonna sound like a dumb question but is trimming their hooves similar to us cutting our fingernails? Doesn't hurt but you know something is going on

That soft tissue being harder to trim is true throuout the body. The tissues are pushed away by the pressure, so the blade can't pierce it as easily. A kidney is easier to cut than a liver.

Nate: Would not a selection of surgical instruments, such as scissors and scalpels be more helpful in removing the “ soft gooey “ bits? I’m always amazed by the pain tolerance of animals..When I see a cow actually crying out loud and unable to put her foot down…I know she’s past the point of her pain tolerance; because those desperate urgent cries of pain are a like ringing the dinner bell to all predators in the area..she’d rather die than suffer anymore.. I know these injuries and infections can develop fast, and when cattle are out in the fields, the farmer might not catch it right away, because they try not to show any lameness…but good grief, sometimes the cattle are not monitored enough…

Absolutely nuts as I know nothing about hoof trimming cattle, you will never respond as if I'm there, and my dog is pretty sure I'm discussing something she would be very interested in, so she gets excited. She's 18 and nearly blind, so when she gets excited, she barks at the wall/furniture/door and she makes me laugh.
