And he clearly wasn't mentally fit so maybe if he would've survived, he could've fixed himself and of course what he did was wrong but that doesn't mean we ignore the situation he was put in.

We'll never know unless we're in their position.. he's not mentally stable since young, all those abused and trauma he faced alone . A young boy who had nobody cared for him, with no one to hear, help, encourage or corrected him .. what do you expect? He could have figure it out by himself when turning into an adult? Don't say that, nobody in the right state of mind will ever did something so vicious.. I'm not creating excuses for Dong Hui but all these factors need to be taken into consideration..

​@@chill_sun3539 He would have never returned to the society. Death sentence or jail for life are the only two options he had. So he chose to kill himself instead. Till the very end he wasn't sorry for what he did but he jumped because there was nothing left for him. He never wanted redemption, forgiveness or a normal life. Even in his last moment it was everyone's fault except him. In his mind, he was doing a social service and died a death of martyr since his mission was over. One can always pity his life but his death was a relief, both to him and others around him. I felt bad for nobody noticed his abnormal behaviour, his obsession except may be for Ms Nam. The younger Dong Hui returned to his house after the death of his mother and there was no guardian for him . Nobody knew what happened to him after that incident. It was then when he could have been redeemed. By the time he died it was already too late for redemption.

Wow!! The writers and the actor did an OUTSTANDING job with Ji's character. I like how they provided the back story and explained how he became a 'monster'. Really sad, touching. Even his end made sense (even though I cried my eyes out during this sequence). All things considered, even his taking his life the way that he did was poignant poetic justice come full circle. The killing and harm had to stop, and he definitely was going to receive severe punishment for the extreme nature of his crimes. It started with a suicide, and it ends the same way. And in between, so many lives were in one way or another damaged or ruined. Aside from the obvious message of how a society's ills can negatively impact small, helpless children, there is also the message that suicide also affects those left behind, and not just the person taking their own life. It is not hard to imagine his sister's soul in tears over how his life turned out. Not only did she not live to accomplish her goals, but her baby brother who was so precious to her - his life became a complete nightmare. 😢 Throughout the entire series Ji never displayed the least regret, guilt or doubt about the acts that he committed. I think had he been sent to jail or confined to a mental institution, it would have pointless, and wound up inadvertently prolonging his torture. As it was, he suffered mentally. If he were to receive treatment and rehabilitation, I think that it would have driven him even further over the edge if he became able to TRULY fathom exactly what he did. Ji was obviously a sensitive person. I don't think that he would have ever been able to forgive himself, even with Choi's help and support. Mr. Ji's storyline was a riveting co-theme for this kdrama. Makes me want to watch the WHOLE story again just to take in every little scrap for clues!!! Bravo!! ❤😊❤

someone in the comment section was saying to not sympathise or justify his actions just because he went through something he doesn't have a right to hurt others i just want to say that no one is excusing or justifying his action...it's just really sad that he was perfectly normal when he was brought into this world..he wasn't a born psychopath but he was made into one..his childhood trauma and abuse that he went through messed up his conscience and he is just a character but these stories are real there are people out there who went through something monstrous and they became monsters..it's just heartbreaking that to prevent all that all that was needed was a loving and stable adult but every adult they ever knew was either in the abuse or was to busy to notice or to ignorant to notice or some noticed but still ignored it because they didn't want to get involved in the mess. that's why there is sympathy in the comment section it's for the child and regret that no one saved him when there were so many people who could..sympathy you are seeing is for the lost innocence not for the monster he has become.

Well, we need to understand that that it wasn't choichiyeol fault in this whole story. This drama isn't that simple ...it makes you understand problem on side of both adults and children. Sometimes adults were wrong (in case of some situations students mom and director) it showcases that education industry has taken the hell out of students. ( And thats a fact, students are going crazy around the world...even in my country India it's sickening...so many teachers wants to just earn and students are doing suicide every no and then) That's the point...there is no sense fighting upon who is at wrong. it's about life, fate and experiences of others we should learn from. And this story is that real life story and real thing.
