Don't get a leaf guard because it actually is way harder to clean. Also, gutter companies will charge you more if you have gutter guards because it's harder to clean. Just saying for your benefit. Hope your gutters go well.

He's talking about a leaf guard for the downspout. It sits over the hole in the gutters and keeps leaves out of the downspout. Not a whole gutter guard system

@@NatureWitchi hate to say it but yea most likely they wanted to milk your grandparents, all the gutter salesmen I’ve worked with admit they target the elderly because how vulnerable they are. But charging extra because there’s gutter guard, is that for replacing gutters? Or cleaning the gutters? If it’s for replacing thats ridiculous! But for gutter cleaning as well because it should make it easier, even if the gutter guards aren’t that functional it isn’t hard at all the clean with a leaf blower.

​@@NatureWitchyes its most expensive to clean gutters with gutter guards because you have to sit there and unscrew all of the screws and its tedious and a pain in the ass and the screws fall down and get lost. Its just 10x easier cleaning gutters with no gutter guards. Ive done tons of gutter cleaning jobs and ive seen gutter guards clog the gutters more than help them.

I installed gutters and gutter guards for a while and if you have a few extra dollars and not too many feet of gutters I would call up a local roofing company that does it all including fabrication and you can get them to make gutter and downspouts that will handle 50 years of use and you can beat them with your ladder 🪜 without a problem denting or scraping. Every gutter company uses.032 aluminum. That stuff is garbage.

One way is to get a downspout extension with an oversized head & strap it to your house cut your downspout about an inch or so short of the extension, put chicken wire over the top of your extension head with screws or zip ties and the leaves will fall out of the downspout on the extension head chicken wire. I’m sure there may be better wire and my explanation might not describe it correctly, but should work. I’m also thinking that my dryer vent kit will also work on clearing out leaves without taking anything off

Look for an elbow called a high flow leaf go it's a standard 75° elbow with an opening that allows debris to fall out as it leaves the gutter and has slats to keep the downspout clean but the water just runs through the angled slats into the pipe.

All you need to do is stick your garden hose down inside the down spout and turn the water on full blast and all the junk will come out. Easy peasy !!

Lead guards = more pain in ass! Saves you in yearly cleanings. Sand and dirt still accumulate. Now you have to screw with the guard. I can do my own. Meaning it’s better for me to hit it one time a year, than to deal with more work less times in life.
