Are there any hints on how to identify that a word is stressed on the third-to-last syllable? If I see "tavola", how can I know that it's "tAvola" and not "tavOla"?
@italianlanguagehub6 ай бұрын
Ciao! Unfortunately I don’t have a trick for you! From experience with my students what helps the most is listening to a mother tongue person speaking! Your brain will pick up the sound a lot faster then studying the words by heart or looking them up in the dictionary! ☺️

I'm confused about "mia" at the end of name...translators say one thing but may it's not right. Or is it an exception. IE: Lalumia versus La Lumia. Please help!!!
@italianlanguagehub Жыл бұрын
Ciao! It depends on the number of syllables. Scimmia will have an accent on the first i: /scìm·mia/ (2 syllables) - same with the word mummia /mùm·mia/ (2 syllables) . If you are talking about Lumia (meaning "limetta"... not very common word) the accent falls like this: /lu·mì·a/ (the word has 3 syllables). The general rule is that the accent falls on the second to last syllable. Obviously you will have some exceptions... also look at the word Accademia: /ac·ca·dè·mia/. It ends with mia but the accents falls on the second to last syllable. Hope this helps. ciao!

This video is very helpful, but your t-shirt misspelled Leaning Tower of Pisa.

hihihi! :) I will need to find myself a t-shirt with a real leaning tower! LOL! :) It would be more appropriate! :)
