2 things your name caught my eye. A-4 Skyhawk and 1982. I’m 1981 and the Skyhawk is in my top 5 all time favorite airplanes ever. Tryed to click your link and it won’t let me follow you for some reason but you can definitely join us on Facebook if you’d like to! It’s a real kick in the pants! we have people from all over the world! Schemes are my main thing and rare markings and zaps. I love the classics.... 😝

I followed the Gulf War very closely (it took place my senior year of HS) and have read tons about it since. I remember a news report about Italian and German aircraft deploying to Turkey. Pretty sure there was a brief clip on whatever TV news show it was of the Italian Starfighters parked at the airbase where they were stationed. Unless it was a stock footage of them still at home in Italy. I'd semi-forgotten about the Belgians though! Italian Tornadoes flew numerous strikes and one crew was shot down and captured. I believe a few Italian warships lent support on the Naval side as well.

Good take away from 1st Gulf War to 2nd and to present day. Was back then only the RAF, the Canadians, and the French were actually flying combat sorties. The Italian’s lost a Tornado on the first night and pretty much called it quits. As he was the lone plane that could hit the tanker on that night as the rest in the squadron had difficulty doing nighttime AAR. But the Rest of NATO stayed home because the USAF and the RAF knew they were not really combat capable. These countries that hung out in Turkey learned a big lesson and today if you look at NATO Air Forces. While smaller they are better trained and more capable and taking part in air actions.
