The person on the other line cannot see it so it's really not that helpful to them, however it still helps the speaker express themselves better. The hand motions don't really add a whole lot directly, it's more just to match your tones, help emphasize upon things or give additional insights. Like to say "on and on and on" , or acknowledge repetition people will roll their hand around and around. Or they remark how big something is so they throw their hands out wide like, "It was fricking huge! I'm talking from there to there!". These gestures naturally call for attention from the audience so that's why it's taught as a tool for speakers.

That’s my mum on the phone, describing stuff to clients. We used to torment mum when she was on the phone by holding her hand. She’d be speechless and she couldn’t tell us off cos she needed her hand to make the threats. 😂 lol. Or, the 4 of us would stand just out of range and do all the hand gestures and arm movements. We’d look like a convention for really bad air traffic controllers. 😂😂 the hardest part was being absolutely silent and avoiding eye contact so as not to start the giggling. Good times 😹🤪

Example slowly moves is something about real time, not real important like the weather “Today th weather will be hot” Slowly hand movement “Yes, we will die” Very strong movement FOOTBALL 😃 or a son that give you headache…

Esto viene desde muy antiguo, en el Mediterráneo es muy común porque viene de las antiguas artes de oratoria que se estudiaban ya en la antigua Grecia. La oratoria era muy importante porque se consideraba fundamental para alcanzar prestigio y poder político. Con la expansión de los imperios mediterráneos, sobre todo el romano todo esto se extendió. En la oratoria antigua las manos eran muy importantes. Así que todo el Mediterráneo tiene estas costumbres, pese a que se desarrolló en Grecia y se extendió con el Imperio Romano.

You know a lot of cultures are big on their hand gesturing but just watching these people in this video i can see that they just like to visualize and contextualize what they are talking about as they go, they immerse themselves. Its a nice quality to have for a person who enjoys conversation
