Italian Language Lessons: Listening to Pinocchio

As a child I enjoyed stories about Pinocchio. I read this myself in Italian and I notice that there are a lot of ‘passato remoto’ used. I think this was a very old story. In modern Italian novels I notice that they use a lot of ‘imperfetto’ ‘gerundio’ or ‘congiuntivo.’

If this was Spanish or French, I'd understand it all. In Italian, I'm making out words now and then. I wonder where I can go on KZbin to first acquire that ability in Spanish in order to them come back to this page with better understanding.
