It depends on the meaning: if "lover" is "the person I love", then it's "il mio amore" (both male or female) or "il mio amato" (male) e "la mia amata" (female) but amato/amata are words more suited for love books and poems 🙂. "Amante", as somebody suggested below, is slightly different, its meaning is more like "I am married but I regularly secretly meet with another person whom I love/like"

@@ettoremorabito860 Agree with you about the Latin family of languages. As an Englishmen they all sound more sensual, fluid, musical and poetic than my own native tongue. I am currently trying to learn Portuguese and have an intermediate level of understanding and speech. Unfortunately as an Englishman although I can speak it to a degree I tend to harden the sound of the words. I've noticed that with Latin speakers when they speak English even if not well they soften the sound of the language and make it more beautiful also. Have a great day.
