It is good to remember that the armour was quite brittle and many parts was bolted and the turret had a only two guys and no cupola. In truth the engine was quite good giving a performance was quite similar to the American M4 and the 75 mm gun had rather better antitank then the 75 mm gun of M4 but had lousy HE rounds

it would've been a great *Heavy* tank if it came out in the 1940''s, maybe even 1941. when the british were using the Matilda's, Valentines, Germans still the Panzer IV 75mm L/24, but it came out in 1943, during that same year the Germans entered the Panther into service and by that time the Tiger 1 was already atleast half a year in service, further more the Soviets had the T-34-85 entering service and probably a bunch more, it is definately a step in the right direction, not being totally helpless against the allies (which let's behonest a tank like the m11/39 and the L3's were), but it is still fair to say that for that time it was still a outdated model. however when i look at another tank the P43 it seems like when you look at the engine (430 Hp), main armament (90/53), protection (80 to 100mm) Small stature (2.2 meters) and more that would've been a great tank in 1943.

Curiously this tank was born by direct order from Mussolini himself because he finally realised how hopelessly his tanks was outclassed by the allies and the Germans. But the Italians wasted more than a year to make a completely new diesel engine instead of using an gasoline aero engine. As an Italian I'm quite ashamed how badly the Italian forces was so badly handled...

Maybe in the end it's better because it made liberating Italy a lot easier. But on the flip side one thing that always annoyed me about History Fans is that people often overlook how some soldiers had to fight with equipment which was very outdated and just call the entire army incompetent which imo is just straight up disrespect to any fallen soldier, same goes for the French. Outdated equipment and tactics but their soldiers fought heroically. So when I crisisize something it most of the time is aimed at the leadership or the equipment rarely the soldiers
