as a (junior, so not their level) blackbelt, the noises are a huge part of it in a spiritual sense, they're about supporting the release of energy (similar to the Maori hakka if anyone is familiar) and everyone's noise is kinda unique to them, but to people not in amongst it i agree it looks weird ALSO, the question at 9:50, no you could not just push them over, one of the biggest parts of karate is sparring and learning to take hits from people much bigger than you relying on your stance and centre of gravity

@@spencerquayle2488 you called it stupid, that comes across pretty belittling to me. and yes we did sparring, which i gather is not the same as sparring in mma. i’m also gathering you didn’t comment looking for an argument so i have some explanation for the differences of sparring between the two practices if you’re interested, if not i’ll just say i know it’s not that serious and there’s no reason for me to get so butt hurt about it, but over sensitivity is my internet specialty. anyway, karate originated in Japan and was heavily influenced by traditional Japanese values such as honour (hence the belt ranking system), discipline (in the sense of holding back which makes it appear less brutal and, consequently, less effective), spirituality (the mindset, meditative practices and importance of self improvement) and aesthetics (parts of it resemble dance far more than fighting) mma, however, being mixed with other styles from all over the world, doesn’t have the traditional Japanese values and is therefore strictly about combat anyway, having typed this all out made me feel better so i hope you also have a nice day
