You miss the point. It's a metter of history. Clearly you don't understand our culture. We italians aren't simply big fans of dubbed films, but we need dubbing. In Italy you don't need to speak English if you don't work in tourism or similar. 90% italians speak italian, not other languages, not for a question of ignorance, but because we don't need it, that's all. Most of our people live in Italy and here for nearly every job English or other language are not important, they are not needed. Why should the 90% of us study a language that will never use? Should we study every language in the world only to watch movies? It's ridiculous and doesn't make sense. Cinema and TV are a simple and nice way to relax after a day/week of hard work. In the evening and in the week-end we want to relax, not attend a forced English lesson because of subtitles and endure foren words with many different accents all the time. It's like asking: Why should I study astronomy when I work in a restourant and never care about stars? Films are dubbed also in other 34 cultures in the world, but I must say that we italians are number one in this field. And apart from this, what about the blind? In Italy they are one milion, not to mension children and old people who can't read subtitles in any case. We've been free to watch films in the original version for over 20 years, but 90% of italians prefear dubbed shows all the same.
