Clarification about a couple of things: puncture dart is actually good, having way more damage than the other basic attack and still no stamina consumption, it also pierces so you can destroy smaller enemies. Drenching/deluging shot applies drenched status, which means target taking ice damage will become completely frozen instead of just slowing down like normal frostbite, also lighting damage will connect to more enemies and apply the stunned status. Drenched also reduces fire damage and prevents tarred status so don't use those together. Tarring/incendiary shot doesn't do much on its own: applies tarred status so target takes more "posture" damage, however if a tarred target is hit with fire it will become "torched" instead of suffering the normal fireblight (torched= incredibly more damage over time, you probably already experienced this against some goblins). Exploding/erupting shot does nice damage, can throw off balance and deals fire damage to combo on tarred enemies. Blighting/nocuous shot is OP: apllies blighted which is just a little damage over time. What the game doesn't tell you is if you shoot a second poison arrow the blight will become waay stronger eating bosses hp, also good because don't care about elemental weaknesses you can poison anyone. Dire/deathly arrow has a secret sweetspot: while using it you'll see the character glow when skill is done charging, release early and you'll deal no damage, release late and you'll deal normal skill damage, release at the exact time of the glow (not even right after it) and deal massive damage, also sends smaller monsters flying to the nearest country. The clue you get for getting the right time is that the glow will be golden instead of white and you'll get a super cool slow down-cinematic effect. Watchout timing this correctly is kinda hard takes practice

I highly recommend picking up Whirling Arrow. This move is very useful, especially on boss enemies like Chimeras. This move will drill into enemy weak points, and it last a long time, meaning you can land multiple of these, and it will just eat their health bars when used on a weak point. Not only that, but if your bow is enchanted with element from your mage, like ice or fire, this move can apply freeze and burn on targets very quickly due to the multi hit.

Imo, this is the biggest skill missing from the video/archer play. If one wants to play mobile archer, imo whirling arrow is undoubtedly the better option compared to manifold arrow. The damage difference is close to negligible for larger monsters, oftentimes in whirling arrow if the monster is pretty mobile, and the hit and run nature of whirling shot means that you can move after the 1 arrow is fired compared to staying in place for a few (admittedly, not very long) shots before moving again. The enhanced ability to stagger and apply quick freeze/burn/shock on targets due to the multiple hits is also very good.

After about 30 hours on archer I highly recommend torrent and whirling. Both have huge DPS. Torrent is great for both crowds and single targets. Down a cyclops and torrent right in it's eye for huge damage. Whirling is great for status build up as well as constant tick damage as it continuously ticks damage and can be stacked with itself.

the problem is you need 3 slots that never change, cascade for aoe and mobbing, and tarring shot and erupting shot which are the things that make archer an actual class. i personally prefer heavenly shot so you can one shot things as a stealth archer. tempest shot personally feels ass to me even though it’s fun; it’s pretty much a dps loss to use it instead of tarring into erupting, or a crit heavenly shot

Have a high hagol sorcerer that have the augmebt that increase application, give it to yourself as an archer too, ice affinity from a pawn and go to town. The mons are a lot slower and freeze super often. Spiraling arrow is absolutely fantastic for this

Add augural flare and you will be doing a TON more dmg than fire set up while the enemy can't do anything. It gives you better openings to hit weakpoints since enemies are permanently slowed. Tbh, I feel ice archer is the set up that fully utilize their strengths

You've never experienced real archer adrenaline till you've dashed and dived shoot in between a cyclops legs when he's about to smash you, also did that during a chimera dive attack.. The hitboxes in this game is insane I felt like a action hero

Big tip here as well, where you end your steady aim on a boss monster is where loose will aim whenever you come out of it, so long as you keep attacking. So you will get slightly less damage but a much more reliable hit on a weak spot if you hit it before dropping your aim

A very overlooked, massive damage combo is Drenched Shot (archer) + Ice Affinity (mage) + Deathly Shot/Heavenly Shot. When bosses are drenched, they take drastic amount of ice debilitating damage, this freezes the boss very frequently. They stay still for a very a long time, you can easily fit in a huge damaging arrow, also adding knockdown if used on a weakspot. Just make sure drenched shot is equipped and the drenched arrows are in the inventory of the archer. I recommend your main pawn being the archer instead of borrwed pawns, because they dont lose the arrows if they die. Putting the arrows on borrowed pains will delete your arrows if they die die or somehow disappear from your party like I did

Some great info here. I for one much prefer the archer’s mobility to the thief’s. Dunno why, I’m one of the few who doesn’t like naruto’ing around. I played it long enough to get subtlety then went back to archer. Jumping and kicking off of monsters has been key to survival. Anytime something charges me I charge straight at it too and do the jump kick shot rather than get hit. I had no idea you could jump off of other surfaces though. Super cool. Also, the spinning shot one is great for stacking elemental affects and performing crowd control since it repeatedly hits them and each hit builds the element.

Thief is an absolute beast of a class but just started Archer and I've been having a lot of fun with it.

Taking the subtlety augment from the thief vocation helps the archer a lot. It's also worth keeping in mind that the archer's lethality augment doesn't really help other vocations save for magick archer that much. Drenching shot will also increase the effectiveness of ice magic too. I deals more damage and freezes them more quickly.

Right on time!! Just started playing lastnight, with Archer as main. Character creation took abit of time and then made it to Lvl 4 and just about arriving at meave. Still wearing miners outfit and my Mage pawn has what looks like a Potato sack with pockets...Lol. Guess my next move is to get to an Innkeep and gets some skills and armor? Very little is explained. As an archer/bowman irl, I have to say, this game does far more things right for archery than it does wrong. For example, and I know that it's a game and this might not be ideal for levels of "fun", the "lack" of mobility for the Archer compared to other classes makes sense. Mobility and archery is no easy feat and we are often left disillusioned, both in real life and in games, when ourselves or our characters can't do insane Hollywood stuff. The reality is, in order to efficiently use, what would be considered heavy draw strength "war-bows", you need to turn your body into a ballista. Being a human ballista is not something that is easy to work in mobility with. Imagine this: Every time you draw a heavy bow with lethal intent, you need to activate your back muscles efficiently and consistently. If you don't, your accuracy will wane, your draw strength will diminish, and you will get tired more quickly. This means that, realistically, your mobility as an archer is limited by your ability to efficiently draw heavy bows while moving with your legs WITHOUT lacking in upper body form. Essentially, in order to attain consistent form, your upper body becomes "stationary"/rigid. Imagine a ballista with legs. This varies between cultures and forms but, in general, this is how it is. For me, it's nice to see a game where archery isn't over-done with cinematic BS. But that, of course, is my humble opinion.

Torrent is fantastic for both weak point damage when an enemy is down, and against groups if you use it like a LMG to suppress them. Pair it with a bow upgraded with dwarven style smithing once or twice for knockdown power, and you'll easily stun lock everything. Also, no mention of heavenly bolt? It's basically dire arrow on steroids. Take endurance, grab the ring which gives you 150 more stamina, and you'll delete multiple health bars with one fully charged weak point shot on a downed enemy. Just have something on hand to restore your stamina afterward.

Tapping Steady Shot will also allow you to recover stamina, if you want to stay in the aimed/over the shoulder mode. It's a bit awkward, but it can maintain your precision compared to loose being a bit finnicky on targeting.

I'm level 27 using Spiral, Erupt, Manifold, and Tempest shot. I swapped Cascade to Spiral to test the strike damage, I like it so far. I use Manifold as my X button main attack to fight/pluck off advancing enemies. I changed Deathly arrow to Erupting Shot for the explosion damage and stun. Dont use it as much as I should. I like Tempest when the creatures are knocked out. Spiral does solid damage as well, not to be slept on. Also not to be slept on, finding the bestest Magepawn that powers up your party.

Same, I'm on PC using a controller, but in the heat of battle, I struggle to remember the dash, jump, heavy, and then light attack button sequence. Looks cool when pulled off, but it's quite finicky to perform imo, and if it goes wrong, you're left in the thick of it open to being hit. Guess I enjoy the simplicity of raining down death from afar. 😂

@@italianspartacus Good dps but you need to use your skills wisely b/c you only have 1 mobile skill. It's mostly a big monster killer setup. Whirling arrow and deathly arrow take care of the smaller monsters/bandits pretty well. Torrent arrow can work as well. Personally I think this is the best setup for archer but it might not be for everyone.

Nice video! I'm doing archer so this will be a great source. That said, one thing I've noticed that I don't like is how enemies sometimes ignore my pawns just to focus on me. They'll literally run past all my pawns just to come after me and chase me around. Makes it hard to play archer (or any other ranged vocation). It also feels even worse after the update. Now it seem like every fight I do more running away than shooting cuz enemies ignore my pawns to come after me

In DD1 Sorcerer was my main, but they took away their ability to manualy aim your spells as welll as less spell slots and spells. Archer feels way better to play as a ranged dps despite sorcerer doing more burst damage. The amount of times my flare vanished because my auto attacks on sorcerer are random is so fustrating.

Don’t use loose, use steady shot unless you need to hit a flying enemy. Steady shot does more damage and you can aim directly at vitals which will do more damage.

I've been archer for most of my 40 hours so far and if you manualy aim with RB you can set your aim on a weak point and often times X will release to same spot instead of its generic aim The sprint shot jump shit and jump kick back flip shot and mobility is key to making archety work Honestly dd2 archer isn't a back lines fire guy theu work best sprinting around the battle field and doing some AoE constantly shooting and staggering huge enemy's with aimed shot or heavenly shot

The slow down animation comes from timing the shot (like deathly arrow) pretty much perfectly and releasing the arrow on the same frame our character glow, it isnt random. The other thing is, loose will very rarely hit a weakspot, ( BTW, don't bother looking at health bars to know if you've hit a weak spot, there's a specific sound that plays every time you do ) which is why you have the need for steady shot, way more than loose to do good damage. Just to add up, yes loose and steady shot do not cost any stam, just like all the "basic attacks" and class skills of any vocation in the game and it is where archer got the short end of the stick imo

Whirling arrow>cascade arrow IMO. It’s AoE when upgraded is big enough to hit almost as many enemies as cascade, it will push enemies away from you with easier stagger, and it does a shit ton of damage to golems, which is a problematic enemy for archers

Almost all damage augments are only 5%-10% damage boost and Verve is only a flat 30 points of strength when you have hundreds. It's sad but you can forgo all forms of offensive augments and just go for the defensive and utility ones.

Whirling Arrow does solid Damage to a singular target and can stun lock an enemy with good knockback. It's 100% one of the best skills objectively for the Archer for Stamina to Damage ratio, but also helps apply effects if you have an enchanted weapon since it hits multiple times. Archers already suffer from low DPS compared to the other classes. If you're running Warfarer you can use Augural Flare on any location and get a number of hits from Whirling Arrow which gives you options for actual ranged Damage that the Archer simply lacks innately though that combination is better with the Thief and Skull Splitter even still because the Archer is pretty poor in the grand scheme of things really and if you're playing an Archer for Range then the Magick Archer is pretty much just plain better. As for taking hits boosting Knockback Resist is more important than boosting Defense so you flinch less if you get hit which is going to reduce the Damage you take by avoiding potential issues of getting locked into stuns. You want Dwarven Smithing or Beast Smithing. Beast does better Damage, but Dwarven on weapons is comparable damage to Human Smithing, but you get a ton of Knockback on weapons which can help you stun lock with Whirling Arrow. Overall Archers just require extra steps to deal decent damage and extra inventory space to manage arrows to combo. Other classes can just outright out Damage them and in more scenarios by hitting various weaknesses or simply having stronger skills.

DD1 archer is super powerful, 10 fold skill is OP. Very underwhelming in DD2, aiming is painful for some reason. Magic archer, thief, and mystic spearhand are so much better and more fun imo. This video however is super helpful for archer players.

Archer needs a buff, it’s just bad IMO. Look how long it took you to kill that Ogre, that’s the time it takes a thief to kill a Drake. Not only does it have mediocre DPS but its more powerful shots require you to be stationary. Plus you need pay for or craft better arrows, what other vocation needs to PAY FOR damage? Finally its master skill drains your stamina, requires you to be stationary, has a charge up time and there is a chance you’ll miss without even doing a full bar of health from an Cyclop eye shot “if” you do hit (with 1500 stam or less). Honestly I feel what could bring the archer up to the other vocations would be slow time on heavenly strike or even slow time on every steady shot. Sorc can call in meteor to wipe the map but the archer is just tickling a single target. Thief can make themselves immortal or side step quickly meanwhile the archer is squishy and defenseless in CQC. Mage can do more damage AOE auto-aim meanwhile thief needs to manually aim. Archer is the games hidden hard mode.

Only a few select pieces overlap. The solution to this is actually using the Warfarer vocation as it can equip any armor pieces. But just use it as a straight up archer lol. Only downside is you can't use Heavenly Shot

I dunno. Explosive arrows are pretty OP. sure you have to craft but the damage and stagger appear to be some of the best in the game.

@@thereegstah Yeah but that's the thing they need a LOT of setups to do so, while other classes just straight up 1 button gameplay lol. I know it's a single player game but goddamn the balancing is awful. I enjoyed archer more when I switched up to Warfarer (Thief + Archer) and made my own Strider.

@heyjulzdontmakeitbad well ironically not having one button gameplay and deleting enemies makes archer already pretty balanced. The game is easy enough as it is. Archer feels powerful with the right setup, but not so powerful that you can mindlessly drift through the game.

I found "loose" was way too weak, tapping Steady Shot seems to do 10x damage, you just need to be good at aiming

Archer just feels meh after using magic archer. It would be different if they played more like they do in monster hunter world. Here they just feel lackluster.

Magick archer is braindead, you don't even have to aim your skills, archer don't have the same damage but at least you can do cool things, magick archer it's just stand and shot until dead.

The magick archer legendary skill is so dumb haha. I one shot the final boss... Swapping to the more balanced classes now.
