Gotrek and Felix need a complete rework, especially now that Legendary Heroes like Goritch or Kroak have been implemented as great assets for their factions. Same with the outdated bretonnian Green Knight.

Yea, and they could give you like story telling and choiches. If you played King Arthur - The Role-playing Wargame you know what I mean. Text adventures with images and a narrator. So have the narrator telling you with a visual images to follow in style of the game and allow you to make decisions. It could tie into novels and other Warhammer fiction. And With Gotrek and Felix the material is abundant to use. Say you go to war with a faction or is at peace contextuall text adventures might be created for you.

I got the game on Epic Game Store last year and the Amazonians DLC was free at some time so I have both. I played for a few hours but wasn't very impressed by the game. Now that the new historical mode is released I will give it a try and maybe compare with the other mode. As for your review, great presentation and details ! I had a really awesome literature teacher that taught me how to write any kind of formal essay - your thesis statement is declared in the opening few sentences of the paper, while the rest of the paper supports that thesis statement. the conclusion re-states the intro, and any paper worth reading starts with a story or something to help the reader relate to what they're about to read. i just apply the same logic to videos hahaha

I like it to, these are the stories I read as a child and to see it come alive like the books is amazing. I think all 3 modes have some value aswell. My favourite hero to play as is Odysseus because of his mechanics and how he fights. Also because he is my favourite character from the myths and books. Even though its a bit unclear if he actually existed in real history.

Great video, really informed me about the DLC, got it on epic so wont be rebuying it on steam, which is a shame. But watching the combat footage in the game optimization section of the video, a lot of the units seem to be just kinda standing next to the things they are attacking, particularly the lion dudes. Maybe the game runs so smoothly because none of the units are doing anything ;)

Maybe it's just me but one positive I have for Troy is it plays amazingly smoothly for me. Every other total war for whatever reason on my has massive load times and battle FPS drops. Troy atleast for me takes like 10 seconds tops in load times and battles run super well. Granted I have many issues with the game but If they can replicate this performance for Warhammer 3 that would be fantastic

I honestly have to disagree on Historical vs Fantasy. Even though historical seems like afterthough I take it, sometimes you just don't want a supernatural elements in TW game, especially single entities, even though irronically historical generals were really powerfull, possible more then their Romance counterpart, you just had to use them wiselly. In 3K I enjoyed both Romance and Historical modes. But we need to see if historical mode in Troy is any good.

Honestly at the current asking price and with TWW 3 around the corner it's a very hard sell. Like you said, what they're doing now with Mythos should have been how the game had released from the start. If they had gone all in on the "Age of Mythology" Total War meme i think people would have easily forgiven both the Epic exclusive and the reused assets (which i don't really mind but some people are weird i guess) as it's been a very popular ask for a Total War setting for over a decade now. I'll never understand why they went for this "history behind the myth" approach because most of the units looked silly and they didn't even stick with it all the way since at the same time you had healing abilities and heroes that were tanking whole armies like they were Karl Franz. They had tons of units from TWW that fit Greek mythology perfectly and i think it was a huge missed opportunity which they're still not capitalizing on now properly with Mythos where most of the new mythological units are just recolored human units. Where are the Nemean Lions, Satyrs, Stymphalian Birds, Sphinxes, Medusas, Furies, Pegasus and Chimeras? Oh well, thanks for the great video but i'll just wait and grab it at 75% in 6-12 months :) Out of curiosity, what did you mean with the Thrones of Britannia comment at the end? ToB has only gotten 1 patch, in 2018 and 1 batch of hotfixes in 2019. It was never touched again and it still has a ton of issues, mostly design-wise that CA never addressed. It could have been a very good entry to the series if they had stuck with it and listened to feedback, i still think it had some of the best siege maps to date and the recruitment system was great as well.

Yes It is, I love this game til I got it for free on Epic, and I can't wait for tomorrow. Now 1) Troy has been well fixed now, no major game breakers 2) some minor annoyances (skill tree for ex) 3) yes It should have been Mythos mode from the start, but that's a lot of dev, and w Mythos you can consider Troy as a major TW title, not this "saga" bs. 4) Troy is obviously a laboratory for future TW titles, especially WH3, and I support that. Finally, I never understood the hatred for Epic. I only paid for the blood dlc and Mythos, all the rest was free (well maybe not Ajax, idk anymore), and Epic never forced me to buy anything else.

Wost part is they did not fix it, when they release the historical DLC i gave it a 2 chance but it still very mutch dissappoint me. too put it sort the quality of the base product is the thing i hate about it

Your game must not be correctly patched, that's an EPIC issue. btw these bugs were nothing compared to the ones at the release of Empire TW. fyi I've had ZERO problems like that in my campaign. I get that battles without big monsters and magic can be boring for some Warhammer fans, even with much better battle maps in Troy. Don't buy other games, then. As for the collisons, that happens in every TW game, and even then CA is still far better than any of their competitors.

Hmm, if this was a history game with highly polished battles and mechanics, I might be more interested in it. However, I have TW: WH2, and it more than sates my appetite for fantasy, monsters and hero centric battles.

I was keen to try historical, even if it was the same game with mythological units turned off and general bodyguards. My issue was the bodyguards were implemented so poorly. Firstly, the combat just sucks: generals will die frequently at any point. This wasn't an issue in Rome 2 and Shogun 2 so somehow this implementation was screwed up. Second, the generals don't feel distinct, making their concept and their skill tree largely irrelevant. Stronger fighters should have stronger bodyguard units. Without that, there's no reason not to exclusively recruit warlords.

I don't know why this game is not rated better. Started yesterday and i really think it is great TW game. UI and heroes fighting each other on battlefield is amazing . Game is smooth like no TW game . Setting is great ,trading mechanic simple but effective , really add to game. It is easy strong 8 without mythos and i am not generous with number .

I think original recipe,historical setting and "strong single" heroes was the, was the right one. Mythos makes no sense to me. I think the game was designed to be historical. After the dope release on Epic, they just slammed Warhammer stuff on, with no criteria. It occupy the same niche as Tw Warhammer, being worst. We just needed a better tweaked historical setting and better multiplayer. Total War are just abbandoning historical setting

I'm disappointed history mode feels tacked on. Three Kingdoms the historical mode felt tacked on as well. I'm worried that CA doesn't know how to make an actual historical title anymore. History IS exciting. Total War used to be able to capture the excitement of actual history. Maybe it's a matter of adding more interesting mechanics like expanding the equipment for troops and customizability, making logistics more interesting and impactful, or expanding the impact of the strategic map on battle gameplay. There's a lot of room for improvement - they could expand the garrison stance and allow armies to create forward operating bases on the strategic map. They could let armies construct roads, fortifications, and other engineering projects, as was done to a great extent by many armies throughout history. A scouting system could be added that allows for cavalry detachments, reporting back recon and raiding enemy logistics. There's a lot of interesting aspects to military operations that they still haven't really touched on.

I would love to see a system where armies have to maintain its own logistics with foragers, so when you entered an area you get X amount of food for X amount of time. Meanwhile an enemy army can attack and instead attack the foragers instead of the main body to interrupt the foraging. The battle would be like 200 v 200 or something. More small scale war related attacks be great.

Exactly my thoughts. Plus now, if we speak for example about Medieval, CA could absolutely create a satisfying feudal and papal system. Plus all the things you said could be a good start to dig in. But what I think, it's that like every game in the industry, apart from a smal minority, difficulty is dumbed down. Case in point : CK3. No challenge at all, no surprise. So CA makes easy game, with easy mecanics. Because it's simple to make and rewards the amount of money in the end. I 99% sure they wont ever tackle on some ideas of yours. Or others more civilian based. Easier to design big dragons and let you think it's new and interesting. In the end, the rock paper and scissor system is still there. They make you thing Brittania in Warhammer is really unique. Yet its just a limit on how many peasants troops I can field. Its just unique events because "fantasy is unique". Well the same could be made in historical title. Different events between france and england. Different orientation. England and its longbow, France and its chivalry that caused many disasters like Crecy. They cant make historical titles anymore, you're right. Dragons and shit are fun, still I want to lead real nations and feel the wind of history play on on the battlefield. No fantasy game could replace that. And surely not 3 fantasy games in a row. We didn't get anything worth since Attila. 6 years ago. Please, some studio take on the lead and challenge CA on this. It isn't that hard.

Like you said, they should have gone with this mythological approach from the beginning. Its too small in scope and too monocultural to be very interesting long term for a pure historical game. These historical games need more varied factions in order to have longevity in my opinion, either that or great modability so people can creat Lotr-mods etc, Medieval 2 was great because it had both. It is a ok game, and adding the mythological features made it better. Its just a shame that with a bit bigger scope and mythological approach from the start it could have been a lot greater. If the campaign map was more zoomed out and included more varied cultures, each with their own mythology and thus with diffrent mythological creatures, magic, heroes. Basically something Age of Mythology'ish in total war, with a norse faction with ice giants fighting the greek hydras, Ragnar Lodbrok fighting Achilles and just crazy (and unhistorical) fantasy stuff like that is what i would have wanted. For these smaller-scale historical saga games they should focus on areas that has much more faction/culture diversity. Or more ideally: use the resources to work on the large scale historical titles like Medieval 3.

Troy runs way better then TWW2 and plays nothing like it. Allies also actually matter in it

THEY SHOULD ADD A DEMI-GOD DLC!, imagine doing quests to win the favor of a demi-god like Hercules and having him fight in your army. Plus they should so do a god of war collaboration with Kratos.
