STALKER actually came from the movie STALKER in 1979. whhich this game is based on including tossing bolts into anomalies, and the wish-granter. and the 1979 movie was based on a russian book called "Roadside Picnic" (1972)

The director Andrey TARKOVsky and his wife and another actor died to lung cancer while filming STALKER so long in the zone around chemical plants and other things humans didn't have a good grasp on the invisible dangers therein. life imitating art (caps on directors last name - you may recognize the reference from the extration shooter game genre Escape from TARKOV)

Not sure if I’m misunderstanding or if it’s just bad wording, but the Chornobyl event itself is NOT what created the zone/anomalies. Stalker lore is basically real history until a few years after the Chornobyl meltdown. It was actually an experiment done by some goofy ahh scientists that created the zone.
