This team is one of my favorites to watch of all time. The chemistry was unmatched. The passion was over the top. It was one of the greatest finals in world cup history. The intensity was ridiculous. IMO the 2006 cup blew away 2010.

The match vs. Germany was the best one next to the final match. The announcer scared me going into the 2nd half of extra time. He said Germany have never lost in penalties in the FIFA world cup. And Italy have never won. I knew that grosso would at least have a shot on goal, and I guess del piero would too. Goooooool!!!!!

This was a tribute to every italian legend of that generation because everyone of them scored at least a goal, so it was like a reward for all their years as great legendary players. Inzaghi, Totti, Del Piero, Pirlo, Zambrotta, Materazzi, everyone of them scored and that was a true team.

They deserved to win. They were truly an united TEAM. A factor every team needs if they aspire to win trophies. Look at the Grosso goal...Cannavaro and Buffon.... "I have never heard anything confirmed nor any suspicions regarding Lippi" Lippi was heavily involved (allegedly) in the match-fixing scandal which ran through Serie A a few years back. It was indeed why he resigned after 2006. Now that it's all blown over, suddenly he's back again. ;)

FACT - since 1970 every 12 years italy reaches the final of the world cup 1970 1982 1994 2006 they havent won them all but they do reach it which shows it takes a while for their younger players to peak so i look forward to 2018 we might get lucky and see them in 2014 ;)

And, the reason I discount Italy this time around is not just because of how I feel about the diving. They also have a very aging team, and while Buffon, Nesta and Cannavaro are all still great (and Pirlo too when he's given space), I do not see anything else about them which inspires. Toni, Gatusso, Inzaghi, Boriello, Totti... they're all either just average or way past their prime. Plus, I think everyone is going to be well prepared for playing against Italy, so I don't expect them to go far.

Good effort from Italy. However the last 2 world cups have been crap! Hopefully this one will be a good one. I want to see Messi, Kaka, Robben, C Ronaldo running at players and doing skills, this is something the last two world cups have lacked.

With Germany, I am mainly going off of their performances last time around, when I think they were the team of the tournament. It's true that it COULD have been because of home advantage, but Podolski, Schweinsteiger, Lahm and Frings are all coming back even sharper and more experienced than before. As with Spain, I think they will impress. Argentina just have too many great players for me not to see them doing well. As with Brazil, I don't want England running into them early on. ;)
