ITALY: AVIANO: NATO AIRCRAFT TAKING OFF

NATO planes took off from their base in Italy on Saturday for another night of bombing in Yugoslavia.
The night before, NATO missiles mistakenly hit the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade, killing three civilians, and had misfired in Nis, hitting a hospital and a market place.
Now, with increased criticism on NATO's mission, its pilots are likely to be especially careful their targets are exact.
NATO has expressed deep regret for civilians who lost their lives in the latest attacks and will be anxious that no more mistakes are made.
The organisation has also previously been blamed for bombing a convoy of refugees and a bridge that had a crowded bus on it, resulting in civilian deaths.
They will be hoping their aircraft and precision weapons will only hit their intended targets on Saturday night.
The F-16 is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft.
In an air combat role, the F-16's maneuverability and combat radius - the distance it can fly to enter air combat, stay, fight and return - exceed that of all potential enemies' fighter aircraft.
It can locate targets in all weather conditions and detect low-flying aircraft in radar ground clutter.
An all-weather capability allows it to use its bombs and missiles accurately even when flying in poor visibility.
The Stealth bomber is resistant to radars.
But even the treasured Stealth has proved not to be completely invincible, after one went down within weeks of the start of the bombing campaign.
