Far-right leader Giorgia Melonia has claimed victory in Italy’s election, and is on course to become the country’s first female prime minister.
Ms Meloni is widely expected to form Italy's most right-wing government since World War Two.
That will alarm much of Europe as Italy is the EU's third-biggest economy.
However, speaking after the vote, Ms Meloni said her Brothers of Italy party would "govern for everyone" and would not betray people's trust.

I am Italian and Leftist. For a moment I was truly considering the idea to vote for Meloni just because the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said EU has “the tools” to deal with a member state if things “go in a difficult direction.”.. In the end I voted for the left but now that the right won I don't think that Italy is in such a great danger. At least not as it is depicted abroad. Our governments are short and unstable but our democracy after all seems to be able to always survive this instability. I also have a UK citizenship and I lived in UK for a few years. What I have noticed is that in UK it's not so easy to have new parties rising outside of the normal establishment, like for example what happened with the 5 Star Movement experiment when tons of common and inexperienced people having won the elections flooded the parliament just after the party was shortly before founded. Also in my opinion a democracy to be efficient has also to be dynamic. Just think about the fact that Meloni alone went from 4,3% of the votes to 26,1% in just 4 years.

exactly nowadays there's a big discrepancy between the image they convey and their essence. I'm Italian and I can assure you that Meloni is not even close to German AFD for instance or the Polish far right. Meloni will only try to carry out policies in favour of her people and country including migration issues which are totally unbearable. Nothing that will differ from the policies followed by all European countries so far.
