As far I've seen from Genova (the little time I've been there) is not a beutiful city. It's very dense and degraded. So maybe it can be dissapointing for someone that has an overrated perception without being there. But as all places it has its own enchanted.

Genova is underrated, not overrated. The only degraded part is the Historical Centre , and not all of it... The Rolli streets are spectacular... Then there are places like Piazza Corvetto/Via Roma, Carignano, Portoria , Albaro and Boccadasse (not to mention Sturla or Quarto) who are amazing... There are Palaces, villas and beauty in this town that puts to shame other more renowned Italian cities .. and besides it's history and cultural heritage is second to none... According to Unesco...
