That fantastic Italian generation deserved to win it all: euro 88 and WC 90. Zenga, Maldini, Ferri, Baresi, Ancelotti, Giannini, Donadoni, Mancini, Vialli, Bergomi, Dinapoli, Altobelli, Di Agustini, Berti, Carnivali…..

Not sure about Euro 88, though Italy did already have a fine side there. At Italia 90 I think they played the most stylish football of all the teams and they were unlucky to go out against Argentina in that close semi-final.

@@danyoutube7491 They weren't unlucky, Argentina deservedly equalised because of their two brilliant players: Maradona and Cannigia, the rest of the Argentina team were butchers. Also, Italy only had some elegance through Baggio, but they won pretty much all their games with a minimal 1-0 score.

The Serie A was the strongest league in the world at the time, all the best players played there - Van Basten, Maradona, Matthaus - so naturally the Italy national team would be strong too, however in 88 the Netherlands deservedly won, their golden trio + Koeman are four of the best players ever, and in 1990 West Germany deserved it, not exciting football but Der Kaiser made them tactically very strong and Klinsmann was brilliant, the best striker in the world at the time.

This italian squad was the basis for the WC '90 team, the defense was great: Baresi, Ferri, Bergomi and 20 year -old Maldini, they were a great team, but in '88 the Dutch were better...

@5:24 What a fine volley from Giannini, unfortunately going a bit wide. @5:38 Zenga, a very good keeper, showing the one facet of his game where he was a bit poor throughout his career - crosses or other high balls into the box. He often seemed to misjudge the flight of the ball and make the wrong decision, or move at the wrong time.

Vialli was a brilliant striker, unfortunately his spell with the Azzurri wasn't too successful to say the least, he really should've had like 80 caps and 40 goals or something.
