A great stream, one of my favorite stories about Pompeii was about a Roman dog named Delta. She was found when archaeologists were making plaster casts of bodies in the remains of Pompeii, with her was her silver engraved collar that named her Delta, as well as named her owner Severinus and mentioned that she had saved his life on 3 occasions. First, Delta pulled him out of the sea and saved him from drowning. Second, she fought off 3 attackers who had tried to rob him. Finally, she defended him from a wolf that tried to attack him near the city of Herculaneum. Here’s the interestingthing. Delta was discovered in Pompeii positioned lying over the body of a young child, probably a relative of her master, attempting to shield it from the volcano. Even with her dying breath, Delta was a loyal dog.

Hey I didn't know you were doing a trip to Italy! As an Italian myself, I feel very proud that you've chosen my country to visit, and I really like your videos! Keep it up and greetings from Parma, reign of the parmesan :D

Related to your discussion about the Appian way, the painting "domine, quo vadis" is one of my favorite paintings, it recreates ths scene.

There is so much awesome stuff in Italy - which isn't a huge country. I could have easily spent a month there. I did a 10 day tour last year starting in Milan, then off to Venice, Florence, San Gimignano, Assisi, Naples/Pompeii, Sorrento/Capri, and finally Rome (with Ostia Antica and a quick dip in the Mediterranean). Amazing overall, although our tour had us eating in hotels a lot - which was not all that great. Regarding food - I prefer American pizza overall, although one of the best pies I've had was in Rome. I had a pizza in Naples too but it wasn't all that special except to say I had a Naples pizza. I'm not a huge fan of "al dente" pasta nor do I like it only with sauce - I like meats mixed in. Although the best Lasagna I've ever had was in Venice. Now, gelato - that's another story - Italian gelato ruins ice cream forever. Also, there is simply nothing to beat drinking a glass of Tuscan wine in Tuscany. Espresso was pretty good too - which we did a lot simply to use the restroom - LOL. Overall, I prefer to spend my carbs on gelato, pastries and wine rather than pizza or pasta - but that's me. Your description of the Cathedrals and Basilicas is so accurate. I kept thinking - regardless of how you feel about religion today - those buildings are so awe-inspiring. Imagine being a someone a few hundred years ago and walking into a building like that - you simply didn't question the Church at all - especially when the beams of light were setup to hit the pulpit/alter just so - like God was giving approval to the priest.

Italian follower here, from Milan. I'm glad you enjoyed the beauty and deep historicity of this country as well as the warmth of the people. Just make sure to go to Venice next time around. On a sidenote: yes public transportation is usually late and crowded. Is it not the case in the US? 😮
@JasonTaylor-po5xc7 ай бұрын
Depends on location and mode of transport. Subways _can_ be crowded at peak times, but they normally run on time (roughly). It's been extremely rare that a muni bus is crowded but they are subject to traffic and can be late. Trains are normally on time for the few that I have used - passenger rail is not very common in the US outside the Northeast and we really don't have any high speed rail lines (South Florida's Brightline is the closest). Like everywhere, airplanes probably have the worst track record for being on time and they can be delayed by hours - often causing missed connections and requiring impromptu overnight stays in unfamiliar cities.

For those wanting a mic recommendation, I have a few: Condensers: Rode N1A, AKG P420, CAD E100SX, Audio Technica AT4040 Dynamics: Shure SM7B, Shure MV7, RE20, Elgato Wave DX I generally prefer condenser in a sound booth or other sound-proof place and dynamics in a sound-treated but not sound proof room like a home office. Dynamics do a great job of rejecting background noice but require getting pretty close - so they aren't ideal for clean video headshots - granted, you see them all the time on KZbin videos. Condensers can provide a richer/more-detailed recording but they can pick up the neighbors arguing a few houses down - so they really need a sound-isolated area. I used a Blue Yeti for many years, it was a fine first mic - but too sensitive for the environment I was recording so I had to switch to dynamics until I could afford my sound booth. The only catch with XLR mics is that they require an audio interface to convert into digital for recording. For the most part, as long as you use a decent ($50+) external mic and take steps to control echoes/unwanted reverb - you're going to be fine.

China? What's the itinerary? I assume it's Beijing and Xi'an. Luoyang and Nanjing were also capitols depending on which dynasty you're interested in. Nanjing also has the site of where Zhang He's dry docks when China built massive treasure ships and went to India. He sailed before Columbus. Food: You need to try Hot Pot. Hard to find in the US. It's nothing "special" just a boiling pot of water you cook food yourself. There's plenty of western food which I recommend Blue Frog for burgers, and such. An important Chinese phrase: "Bu la de"- means no spicy when you're ordering Chinese food anywhere because Chinese will assume you want the hot stuff. Safety tips: If you go to the great wall or anywhere involving climbing to a great height, China doesn't have the best stairs nor do they have a handrail. The part of the Great Wall I went to only had a metal chain you could hang on to and the stairs were chipped and steep you practically had to crawl on your hands and knees. Something that few tourists do in Xi'an is visit the White Horse Temple or, when visiting the terracotta soldiers, people don't take the free bus about 1 mile down the road to the actual tomb mound of Qin Shihuangdi which they have some more pits and things to see around there. Lastly, I understand you're a pastor. I don't recommend trying to find a Chinese church group because they can get raided by police sometimes. If you ever get around to Shanghai, I recommend taking a walk down Nanjing East road to the Bund in the evening. Shanghai was my home away from home for many years. I miss it all and considering going back.
