At this stop, we've arrived at the city of water, Venice.
Venice is one of the most romantic cities in the world.
The Venice before our eyes
is like a large three-dimensional colourful painting,
little by little it opens,
slowly unfolding in front of us.
Venice is a very unique place.
The entire city is built directly on the surface of the sea.
It's the only city in the world without cars.
Venice seems like a city floating on the water.
The distinctive ecological environment
makes Venice a one-of-a-kind place in the world.
The architecture here is incredibly diverse
with various styles and colors
that make Venice look incredibly romantic.
In Venice, every building has a dock
for private boats,
similar to how we have driveways for private cars.
similar to how we have driveways for private cars.
This is also a significant feature of Venice.
Venice has 177 canals
and 401 bridges.
When strolling in Venice,
the only means of transportation are boats.
There are water buses,
water taxis,
and the traditional Gondola.
The white boat in front of us, resembling a private yacht,
is a water taxi in Venice.
The two black boats behind it,
paddled by boatmen, are Gondolas.
The most common public transport in Venice is the water bus,
which looks a lot like Hong Kong's Star Ferry.
Many people take boats,
and there are many stops.
The buildings are so close together
that it's hard to imagine why these buildings aren't built on solid ground
but in the water?
Legend has it that over a thousand years ago,
around 500 AD,
people nearby came here to escape wars.
They found that the bay and marshy land here provided a natural barrier for protection.
As more and more people sought refuge here,
there wasn't enough space to live,
so they needed to build a new city.
It's difficult to imagine the wisdom of ancient people
who drove thousands of wooden stakes into the muddy seabed,
one after another,
until the stakes were above the water's surface.
They then constructed a sturdy wooden platform on top of these stakes
and built buildings on it.
The bottom of these buildings you see now is built on this kind of structure,
and that's how this great city was created.
