He literally carried Italy on his shoulders for 94 World Cup and dragged them to the final. He was the only real attacking option and he was The attacking option to turn to for Italy. Given that he’s a Balon D’or winner for his attacking prowess makes him the best player of the early 90s period. Yes Baresi and Maldini and Buffon are all time legends are greats themselves, however Baggio is the brightest star with the most talent and the world at his feet. This is so because the most talented and most lauded players are always the forwards as their creativity, guile, skill, speed, strength is relied upon the most. Defenders have 3 other accomplices. Italy had only beaten Spain (just barely) and Nigeria (with loads of luck). Bulgaria lost to Sweden 4:0 because they didn’t care about the 3rd place - both teams would get bronze medals according to the rules then.
