Very good. This is lighter and more playful than some of those and would appeal strongly to those who are anxious or diffident.

I'm fluent in Spanish and I'm in the process of learning Italian. My Italian friend corrected me this morning when I miss pronounced meglio. I thought I was saying right for the longest time. I was saying it the way that I read it, me-glio.

Yeah, italian "GLI" sounds the same as Spanish LL!
@alejandro868 жыл бұрын
Italy Made Easy Excuse me for stepping in, but italian "gli" is not pronounced the same way as "ll" in Spanish. The "gli" sound simply does not exist in Spanish (trust me, I had the hardest time achieving that pronunciation when I was learning Italian haha). The equivalent to our "ll" sound would be the italian "gi" or "ge" like "pagina" or "gelato" - and even then it's not the exact same sound.
@danniekaye21157 жыл бұрын
as someone who grew up speaking italian &&& currently a spanish major, i'd say the "gli" explanation transfers over pretty well! you might be thinking of a "ll" dialect? or maybe a "gli" dialect?

In Serbia we call ''bruschetta'' - ''brusketi'', ''prosciutto'' - ''pršuta'' (prshuta), 'spaghetti'' - ''špagete'' (shpagete), ''parmigiano'' we say ''parmezan'' even though we have the GI sound - Đ, ''versace'' we actually pronounce 100% same ''versaće'', ''carbonara'' - ''karbonara'', ''crescendo'' - ''krešendo'' (kreshendo)...Also the most common informal greeting is 'ćao' (Italian ciao or something) and I have NO IDEA why we use it since we don't have much of a relationship with Italia...Btw great video! :D

we also say vidim (vedo), volim (voglio), daj (dai), idemo (andiamo). ćao must have become popularized by the partisan song bella ciao, since it was very popular in yugoslavia. and in slang we also use kapiraš (capisci). while kara (cara) is a bad word (cazzo).

Oh, and on "calzone" isn't it supposed to be a massive emphasis on the "ts"-sound of the letter z or is it only when its "zz" ?
@italymadeeasy8 жыл бұрын
no, not a very strong Z in Calzone!
@Zazzauser8 жыл бұрын
Doesn't it depend on what part of Italy it's pronounced in? I often hear southern Italians pronouncing it with a mild Z sound while northern Italians seem to pronounce it with a strong Z sound
@sofiagiordani68818 жыл бұрын
Riccardo DoctorSax Sasso yes, sometimes it depends on your accent
@Zazzauser8 жыл бұрын
I think it depends! All of my relatives living in Puglia (south Italy) pronounce "calzone" with mild Z, as well as "calzare" (to wear shoes/socks),"calzini" (socks), and other similar words. Never heard them pronouncing it differently (think that's the correct way) But where i live (North Italy) everybody pronounce these words with strong Z/ts sound. Regarding the "double Z" sound, it also depends xD "Cazzata" has a strong 'ts' sound, "azzardo" a mild sound
@nellouffa8 жыл бұрын
yeah, depend on which part of Italy, but in a different way. I'm from Venice and we pronounce "ts" instead of a vibrating "z".

I've been told that "gli" at the beginning of a word is almost always pronounced as it is spelled. How true is that?
@irisaspidistria1538 жыл бұрын
yeah it's kind of true but for example the article "gli" is still nasal
@BetaFalcon138 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I did know that. But like "glissare" is pronounced as written
@irisaspidistria1538 жыл бұрын
Yes it is. I actually don't think there is a special rule for it. Some words are read nasally some are not
@italymadeeasy8 жыл бұрын
the words that start with GLI pronounced as it's written are very few and you are not likely to be using them often. They are mostly technical/medical terms. Things like GLICERINA, GLICEROLO, GLITTOGRAFIA, GLICEMIA, GLICERITI etc. The nasal sound of GLI is the most common one.
@BetaFalcon138 жыл бұрын
That is good to know. I've kind of been learning Italian as a third language, and I don't exactly have other Italian speakers to talk to, so my knowledge of pronunciation of Italian words pretty much comes from knowing the IPA and how it pertains to Italian. Anything that doesn't follow standard rules, I have no way of knowing how to pronounce. This channel is honestly a godsend, because now I have a reliable source of spoken Italian to listen to

Actually "pistacchio" is not such a common word to use in everyday speech! 😂 The stress falls on the "a", so "pistàcchio"... then remember that the double Cs have a hard sound because they are followed by the H. 😉

@stefano_etrusco7 жыл бұрын
Veronica Rosazza Prin le vocali scritte sono 5 ma hanno 7 suoni perché la E e la O ne hanno due ciascuna. Per esempio le E finali di perché e caffè sono diverse nella pronuncia. La prima è chiusa e la seconda è aperta. Certo, negli accenti regionali non è che si rispetti tanto l'uso corretto. Per esempio a Milano pronunciano aperta anche la E di perché, e magari chiudono la E di senti che invece dovrebbe essere aperta.
