I'm in business development with a glass fabricator. A company called us (they make military vehicles) and told us we have to be ITAR certified. Everyone I am talking to says that we are not importing or exporting military controlled items so it doesn't apply to us. How do I explain that to my contact?

It is possible that they are sharing information that they already know is restricted or need to share it with you in the future but you must be compliant to handle first. We can help with that at getITARcompliant.com - there we can put you in touch with an expert to help understand what it takes to have a program in place allowing you to safely handle anything your client may be sending you or want to send you.

Does ITAR have anything to do with regular proprietary consumer goods? I have an extremely valuable invention that I need to protect, already have a PPA and a NDA along with invention assignment agreement. Is there anything I'm missing? Thank you

It would depend upon if your invention falls into a category listed within the U S Munitions list. Reach out to us at getitarcompliant.com and we can work with you one on one to understand where your needs may be.

How do I register if I'm only an IT service to an ITAR compliant company? I don't manufacture, or temp import, or export. I only provide consulting services to the manufacturer.

You as a person servicing a system that contains ITAR do not need to register or do anything on your end. However, the company who holds the ITAR should have an ITAR program in place which includes screening you before you are given access.

There should be no need to register with DDTC given what you are writing here.

You may however need to put an ITAR / EAR program in place and for that, feel free to contact us at getITARcompliant.com
