I live in Thailand. I live in an older condo in Pattaya (5-minute scooter ride to the beach). It is all concrete, so the rooms are quiet. I am on the ninth floor, so the sunsets are great, and I do not have any trouble with mosquitoes up here. I do not get much road noise because I am on the ninth floor. We have a large pool with a slide. There is a restaurant by the pool; most meals are 3-7 dollars. My rent is $207/month. I have a new wall unit ac. It works great; a guy comes out the same day to fix it if it breaks. I run the ac 24/7 and my electric bill is $30/month. My room is 270 square feet or 30 square meters. It has plenty of room for a single guy. I have no plans to move back to the States.

We rented a condo in Pattaya for a week to see what it would be like to live there. It was a nice place, similar to what you've described. I knew electricity in Thailand is cheap, but I didn't know it was that cheap. Wow.

On rent, yes, Phenom Pehn starts at around $300/mo. Siem Reap starts around $150 so if you are cost driven, Siem Reap might be for you.

They live in the capital since his wife has work there & gets housing subsidy of $1000/ month. They like being in a city with conveniences. They like dining out, going to the movies, etc. If they're happy, then it's their life. Live & let live. 🙂

I live in Siem Reap in a 1 bedroom with pool and a private balcony right on Taphul road and cleaning is twice a month, rent is $300. I'm from a cold climate so my electric bill is $80- 100 a month, I keep it nice in here. All in for cable, Wi-Fi bottled water, 24 security it was $393 this month. My last bill total in July for that in a mobile home by the airport in Detroit was $985. And I owned the mobile home. Why does anyone on Social Security as their main source of income ( such as myself) live in the U.S.? My biggest problem since coming here is this, how do I tell my son I'm never going to live in the U.S. again. The quality of life here is so much higher than it is in the U.S. Why would I ever go back?

Cool video, lived here for a year and that about right excluding the major traveling. I pay $460 for service apartment in BKK2, the utilities similar to yours and I don’t use the AC that much so pay about $15-$25 max on electricity. ( use a fan and live on higher floor ) the rest very accurate. Thanks for the video it was very entertaining and informative.

Yes i own a two bedroom an pay my utilities. I have a pool and gym with security and free moto parking. Internet is 18 $ high speed with router. My mortgage and utilities is less 300$ than i was paying in one bedroom apartment in Las Vegas Nevada. Happy to be here always will. Thanks for your video.😊

How about buying your own tuktuk? or is that somehow a more complicated? I think it would be the perfect transportation for me, rainy day riding, as a grocery Getter, beach runner. Good information!!! We currently have not committed to actually moving to Cambodia yet but we are now coming there two or three times a year for several weeks at a time. We are wine drinkers and in many videos and forums many ex pats mention how cheap alcohol is. I will agree that beer is very cheap but we find the wine cost 25 go 50 percent higher than what we pay buying it on sale in Dallas, Texas USA. I understand it is all imported and maybe that is why. Thanks for posting such detailed information.

Yeah, unfortunately wine is one of the most expensive ways to catch a buzz in Camboida. It's possible to get a bottle of decent wine for $5, but I'm usually paying $6-7.

Thanks for the rundown. I wonder how many people will move there as a result of vids like this. Living in Toronto is ridiculously expensive and quality of life is declining. A lose lose proposition. It's amazing that more people in the West haven't moved to SE Asia already. Thing is money isn't the only thing to consider. Finding a comfort zone is also key so you feel like you belong there. Language learning is important or at least finding other English speakers. I'm still just a snowbird for now but looking to make the full year transition soon. Greetings from Scarberia.

I wouldn't say way more expensive. Let's save "way more" for countries outside of SEA. I do think that my food bill would be less living in Bangkok, but that's because I'd eat more local food. I think if you compare restaurants that serve foreign food, the prices are pretty similar.

@@itchyfeetonthecheap It's down to Cambodia using the US Dollar, so even the most basic street food is above a dollar. You can hardly find anything at 50 cents (2000 Riel) anymore. In Bangkok and Hanoi its easier to find food under a dollar. Yes its way cheaper than in the US or EU but Cambodia is not as cheap as people think. I should know after staying here for 20 years.

I saw that poll too, and my first and only though was that was a whole bunch of bullshit!! There is no way that Phnom Penh is anywhere near the expense of Singapore. Yes, Vietnam is a bit cheaper than Cambodia, but this is because many products have to exported into the country, so Cambodia has to pay heavy tariffs to Vietnam for having access to the Mekong. (Hopefully, after the new canal is constructed and operational, this will all change.) And Thailand isn't all that cheap anymore, and their government isn't making it easy for ex-pats to get retirement visas anymore. I can't think of another country in the world, and especially in the region, better than Cambodia in making this process more convenient, easier and less stress free. It's like Cambodia wants you there!!! ...
