My father was diagnosed with cancer just weeks before my husband and Is church wedding (we were married 8 months before we had our church service). I was with my father every day, going after I finished work and I would be home before my husband woke up after his midnight shift. My husband never complained and even went with me to my parents house on his days off. I wonder if some of it is that the stories are maybe from other countries and translated? I've lived in many countries. The U.S., at least on the coasts are nothing like this. Sure, there are in-law issues, but I feel these are way exaggerated which is part of their entertainment value.
