ইতিহাস প্রসিদ্ধ কুড়ুমবেড়া ফোর্ট | Kurumbera Fort | Gagneshwar Keshiyari Paschim Medinipur

খড়গপুর থেকে বেরিয়ে ২৭ কিলোমিটার দূরে কেশিয়াড়ি - সেখান থেকে বামদিকে ঘুরে বেলদা-গামী রাস্তায় তিন কিলোমিটার যাওয়ার পরে একটা গ্রাম কুকাই। কুকাই বাস স্টপ থেকে ডানদিকে একটা লাল মোরামের রাস্তা আরও তিন কিলোমিটার দূরে চলে গেছে গগনেশ্বর গ্রামে। সেখানেই ৭০০ বছরের পুরোনো কুরুমবেড়া ফোর্ট ! ইংরেজরা জেলার গেজেটিয়ার রচনার সময়ও এটিকে দুর্গ বলেই উল্লেখ করেছে।
১৪৩৮ থেকে ১৪৭০ সালের মধ্যে ওড়িশার রাজা কপিলেন্দ্র দেবের আমলে নির্মিত হয় এই দুর্গ। ইতিহাসবিদ রাখালদাস বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের মতে, গজপতি বংশের রাজা কপিলেন্দ্র দেবের রাজত্ব বিস্তৃত ছিল বর্তমান হুগলি জেলার দক্ষিণ অংশ মান্দারণ থেকে দক্ষিণ ভারতের মাদ্রাজ পর্যন্ত।
ঝামা বা ল্যাটেরাইট পাথর দিয়ে প্রথমে মন্দিরই তৈরি হয়েছিল এখানে। মোগল আমলে বদলে যায় পরিস্থিতি। তাহের খানের অধীনে সেনাদের আশ্রয় শিবির হয়ে ওঠে কুরুমবেড়া। সেই থেকে তা বদলে যায় দুর্গে।
'মেদিনীপুরের ইতিহাস' গ্রন্থের প্রণেতা যোগেশচন্দ্র বসু লিখেছেন, ".মন্দির গাত্রে উড়িয়া ভাষায় লিখিত যে প্রস্তর ফলকখানি আছে, তাহার প্রায় সকল অক্ষরই ক্ষয় হইয়া গিয়াছে, কেবল দু'একটি স্থান অপেক্ষাকৃত স্পষ্ট আছে, উহা হইতে 'বুধবার' ও 'মহাদেবঙ্কর মন্দির' এই দুইটি কথা মাত্র পাওয়া যায়।"
কথিত আছে, পাঠান আমলে দাউদ খাঁ মোগলদের কর দেওয়া বন্ধ করে নিজেকে স্বাধীন নবাব বলে ঘোষণা করেন। সেই সময় মোগলরা যুদ্ধ ঘোষণা করলে দাউদ খাঁ এই দুর্গে আশ্রয় নিয়েছিলেন। সেই সময় দাঁতনের মোগলমারির কাছে সেনা ছাউনি থেকে মোগল সৈন্যরা এই দুর্গ ঘিরে ফেলে। মৃত্যু হয় দাউদ খাঁর। ওই এলাকা থেকে ঔরঙ্গজেবের সময়কার মুদ্রারও সন্ধান মিলেছে। পরে এই দুর্গে মারাঠারাও ঘাঁটি তৈরি করেছিল বলে মনে করা হয়।
নৃতত্ত্ববিদ প্রবোধচন্দ্র ভৌমিক তাঁর 'মেদিনীপুর কাহিনী'তে জানিয়েছেন, 'ওই দুর্গের কাছে গেলে কত কথাই না মনে পড়ে - হিন্দু, মোগল, পাঠান, মারাঠা কত সৈন্য এখানে দিন কাটিয়েছে তার আর হিসাব নেই'।
সৌধের প্রাঙ্গণের পশ্চিম দিকে রয়েছে তিন গম্বুজ যুক্ত মসজিদ। একদা জেলা গেজেটিয়ারে লেখা হয়েছিল, সম্রাট আওরঙ্গজেবের রাজত্বকালে ১৬৯১ খ্রিস্টাব্দে জনৈক মহম্মদ তাহির এই মসজিদটি নির্মাণ করেন।
১৯৯০ সালে কুরুমবেড়া অধিগ্রহণ করেছেন আর্কিওলজিক্যাল সার্ভে অফ ইন্ডিয়া। আছে সব-ই। তবুও অবহেলিত । অধিগ্রহণ হলেও, হয়নি তেমন কোনো সংস্কার।
Keshiari, 26 km from Kharagpur - a village Kukai after turning left for three kilometers on the Belda-bound road. A red moram road on the right from the Kukai bus stop is another three kilometers to the village of Gaganeshwar. That's where the 600-year-old Kurumbera Fort! The English also referred to it as a fort during the composition of the district gazetteer.
The fort was built between 1438 and 1460 during the reign of Kapilendra Deva, the king of Orissa. According to historian Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay, the reign of Kapilendra Deva, a king of the Gajapati dynasty, extended from the southern part of the present Hooghly district from Mandaran to Madras in southern India.
The temple was first built here with jhama or laterite stone. The situation changed during the Mughal period. Kurumbera became a refugee camp for the army under Taher Khan. Since then it has changed into a fort.
Yogesh Chandra Bose, author of the book 'History of Medinipur', wrote, There are only two things. "
It is said that during the Pathan period, Dawood Khan stopped paying taxes to the Mughals and declared himself an independent Nawab. When the Mughals declared war at that time, Dawood Khan took refuge in this fort. At that time, the Mughal army surrounded the fort from the army camp near Dantan Mughalmari. Dawood Khan died. Coins from the time of Aurangzeb have also been found in the area. Later it is believed that the Marathas also built a base in this fort.
Anthropologist Prabodh Chandra Bhowmik said in his 'Medinipur Kahini', 'When you go to that fort, you don't remember how many words there are - Hindus, Mughals, Pathans, Marathas, how many soldiers have spent their days here.'
To the west of the courtyard of the monument is a three-domed mosque. It was once written in the District Gazetteer that the mosque was built in 1791 by a Muhammad Tahir during the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb.
Kurumbera was acquired by the Archaeological Survey of India in 1990. There is everything. Yet neglected. Although the acquisition, there has been no reform.
