Thank you very much for watching my rambling last night, lol. That is a very interesting barreled action you have there. I was actually just recently doing some study for another guy on the model 1878. So what you Have is a gun only made from 1882-1883 it has the Buffington sight, but they had not yet started stamping them. "Model of 1884". What happened was that in 1882, the 1873 die malfunctioned and started stamping what looked like an 8 on the end. These are kind of rare rifles as not a lot were made with the bad die. These were the first rifles with Buffington sights sighted in for the big 500-grain bullet. Some people call them a pre model 1884. It would have been completely blued from springfield. Buffington!!! I KNEW you would know. And a crap ton more then this old Hillbilly about it. Some day I would love to show you all 3 of my Trapdoors and the front stuffer that preceded them.
