My friend and I was just talking about Soul Train. I was on the original ST in Chicago. During that time Don Cornelius was flying back and forth from Chicago to LA setting up ST. But I was in high school when I was on ST. I don’t know what happened to the tapes/recording of those shows in Chicago. Dancing was so much fun we were active back in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. I always tell the young people they don’t know what they missed the Disco Era.

I was born in the 80s, but I prefer the Soul Train of the 70s! The music, fashion, the women so classy, etc.

Man, the music got raunchier and so did the clothes. Geesh. Much love to the 70s and Soul Train’s unique legacy.👍🏽

I don’t like to differ with you. “Soul” music kinda died in the 80’s with the advent of soul-less “rap-crap.” I noticed when hippity hoppity music hit the dance scene, the smiles left the dancer’s faces and the dance moves got slower and slower. Classic was the classiest.

Watching the transitions of the fashion styles & dancing through the decades was pretty cool , even though I was born at end of the 70's & wasn't old enough to live in the moment, I still prefer the 70 & 80's music, style, dance & fashion because it just seemed so authentic & organic, even the 90's, because those were my teen years, & I had a blast back then, but the 2000's is where I see the dances, & fashion becoming more sexualized, which seems to have to lead to where we are today, nobody is really dancing , just twerking, it's sad to see such a decline, because our culture is so much more & deserves better, our people been through too much & worked way to hard for such a decline

No tattoos, no satanic iconography, no twerking, no talking endlessly about your vagina or the color of your bootyhole. Just beautiful black women dancing. Oh yes, we always had Bessie Smith, Millie Jackson, and Lil Kim. But they were the exception. It's a reason Lauryn Hill got so much widespread praise, and you weren't afraid to listen to he around kids. I feel we have lost our way. People rush to defend ratchetness instead of fully realizing why so many push back on it.

Soul Train was created because American Bandstand wouldn't have black artists on the show or play black music. AB saw the success of ST then put a show on tv called-SOUL-UNLIMITED-a copy cat of Soul Train, then Don & company had that copy taken off the air-ASAP. LOL. Soul Train was the first black owned tv show ( Don Cornelius owned ST lock, stock and smoking barrel ) in american tv history.
