Dude I been so mad at my hats lately, last 3 I bought online should all be proper size but nope. So upsetting to order a hat $76 and it fits like garbage looks boxy etc. Couldn’t stuff enough paper in there. Omg the oven so scary at first but then u realize how amazing it works. Thanks! I had two hats that were too big. I usually wear a 7 5/8. I had 7 3/4 that seemed a little bigger than normal and a 7 7/8 that was gifted to me and was enormous. I did the oven trick on both. The 3/4 shrunk almost perfectly. I feel like after I wear it a bit it will be perfect. The 7/8 I actually put in 2 rounds (different days) and it shrunk a lot. It’s still a little bigger than I need but the difference is huge. I may go for a 3rd attempt and see if I can get it just right. Thanks so much for making this video. Thank You So Much! I also wear a size 7. I had purchased a limited edition throw-back hat of the Denver Bears, a former AAA team. This meaningful to me as I remember going to games when I was young, also my Dad was fortunate to be selected as a Batboy for the team in the 60s. Searching the internet for some time the only version I could find of this hat was in the fitted size of 7 1/8, so I needed to shrink it down to a 7. I followed the instructions for the baked in oven method. I baked for 6 minutes and when I took it out it was still steaming and wet, so I let it go another 4 minutes. the hat was fitted on my head each time I took it out. Initially, I unintentionally got the bill slightly wet. This worked out ok as I prefer a curved bill, once out of the oven the sightly damped bill was reshaped with baseball and rubber-band. I placed the hat about two feet from our baseboard heater for 20 minutes to fully dry. Overall, this worked PERFECTLY! This Hat Fits Like a Glove! Thanks for Sharing!

Just a little tip- a lot of dryers can adapt a drying rack: it’s either a flat, plastic, grill looking rack that slips onto the front bottom lip of the dryer opening OR a rubber-dipped metal rack that has legs that swing down & rest along the very outer edges of the dryer cavity where the spinning drum makes no contact. Theses racks are usually used to dry very delicate fabrics- even hats! Prob a lot safer than an oven.
@justinebryleapacible63823 жыл бұрын
If you’re gonna try the oven option, It works really well but I recommend you to wet the whole hat because if you leave some part of the hat dry, it will burn just like what happened to my 59fifty, I didn’t wet the brim because I don’t want to lose the shape of the brim but that was a big mistake because it leads to a burnt brim.

Just did the oven method to my 59fifty WITHOUT wetting the brim and it was ok. As long as you don't exceed the 5 minute it will be okay. It is better to shrink it little by little than to leave it for a long time. And of course use tin foil.

I tried boiling water over the cap (use tongs to hold it) soak it and the peak. In the fan oven for 8 minutes on 310 degrees. Took it out and the light grey underside of Peak had some light burn marks where it was resting on the foil. Cap was still v.wet but was definitely smaller. Then put it back in the oven but with a cookie shaper under the brim to keep it up off the foil and stop it burning, fo this in the first instance. Then each 1m.30s took it out to make sure wasn't drying out too much. After another 4mins 30s the top part of the hat was dry and on the edge of burning so removed it from the oven. Left it to rest upside down on the crown of the cap for the day to dry out the card in the peak. And it definitely is a tighter less tall fit! Thanks for the tip man. I wouldn't of ever put my cap in an oven without watching this video!

I forgot how annoying NewEra 59/Fifty sizing was as I collected them as a teen, but now at 48 got back into hats with my son, haha. This video was helpful, as I am between sizes and skewed large and they were huge! What worked best for me was drench under the tap with hot water for a while (really work in the water into the bottom that goes around the head so the fibers are fully saturated), then do the blow drying trick on the hottest setting focusing on that same area but also work it around the hat as well. When if feels pretty good I then toss it into the dryer for 15-20 minutes making sure to check on it here and there. By the time it's fully dry it fits pretty well perfect. I'd not even thought of the paper towel method, but I will use this to fill in on the ones that were still a bit loose.

I actually shrunk my New Era 39thirty Yankees cap. They don't make my certain hat anymore as they changed the style so I definitely didn't want to throw it away because it was too big. I put the hat in hot water and then put it in the oven. The hat fits much better now but I also added a paper towel and put 3 pieces of tape to stick it so it wouldn't move/fall out. Looks and fits much better. The inner band is a little bit more noticeable after the hat's thin sweat resistant material shrunk but I am looking closely for it. It looks fine to me. Surprised it work well as the hat is polyester and polyester doesn't really shrink much. Thanks.

So my question is, have you tried different variations? Like 6 min in the oven, then maybe some set time out of the oven (15-30min?), then right back into the oven, maybe a few extra times? I remember doing the oven option years back on a hat. When I took it out the oven I didn't wait long enough to let it cool off and when I pressed down on my head to give the crown shape, I burned the top of my head with that top metal piece at the center of the cap (I forgot the name right now). It burnt like a mfer for a split second and made me throw it tf off my head lol. But it worked!

The paper towel works like a charm ! I agree w the inconsistent sizing but this time my girl got me a fitted for my bday so there was no trying on but now it’s chilling ! Might try the oven one soon though!

Thank you! Bought a Braves WS Champ hat from last season on clearance...smallest available was 7 5/8ths, but I am closer to 7.5. I bought it anyway, and then viewed your video. Works great THANKS!

Sweet video. Weather stripping (like the stuff you put around your doors) works great and it's super cheap. You just line the hat under the band.

True to Size or Size Up?
@Its_Sheroy3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes when my size is sold out I size up and shrink it. I try to stick to true to size and shrink or tweak the fit to suit my head shape better

Can you do a video on how to stretch a small hat
@fathersonsrcpoop99053 жыл бұрын
Never once had this work unless it was a 100% wool then getting wet and putting it on works to stretch
