If you watch the live solo covers on YG channel, there is also a dance performance of 5 members, Rora, Ruka, Asa, Rami and Ahyeon who had already trained for 3/4 years. That is a YG hint that the final 5 had been selected but did not debut at the time in 2021. Blackpink Lisa had blown up the Thailand market into a mega kpop market for YG so Thai members became a need to have. Auditions went out to Thailand and they found Pharita. She trained for a year but still no debut until the discovery of Chiquita who was performing with Red Rose in Thailand. The resemblance to Lisa in terms of a dance and performance genius is uncanny but also with the added advantage of a powerful and angelic vocals. Chiquita, with just 3 months of training YG knew he had the final piece of the Baby Monster puzzle and was ready to launch but the selection of the final 5 meant dropping someone from the final 5. Although most fans thought YG was trolling, the reality was always 5 as YG had indicated. The intent of the Last evaluation series was to actually select the final 5. But the girls proved to YG and fans that Baby Monster is OT7. Watch the final episode. The girls were for sure very surprised by the final 7 selection. Also watch their group cover, Scars to your beautiful and dance covers, Jenny from the Block and 2NE1 mashup. The girls are so in synch it is incredible to watch. Actually watch all their dances for Batter Up, Sheesh, Like that, Forever These girls just are for sure also such an incredible dance group.

Yeah fans are kinda understandably cynical about anything YG says or does anymore, but he was definitely telling the truth about wanting 5 members for BM. YG had never had a GG with more than 5 members, and YG understood how difficult it would be to have a group as talented as BM with 7 members and giving all of them equal attention as they all deserve(they still haven't nailed this down IMO). But the girls definitely changed his mind at some point during their evaluations working together, he saw how well they all fit together. The only question there really is, is when YG decided to keep all 7 members in BM, because I highly doubt it took him all the way until the announcement for him to come to that decision.

@@arqHHM As YG had said, the final BM OT5 is Pharita, Ahyeon, Rami, Chiquita and Ruka. He had decided Asa to lead a new Japanese group and Rora to lead another new group. So the last evaluation was not about keeping all 7. He wanted all 7 from the start of the Last Evaluation series but who to drop from his 2021 selection to include the Thai members.

Hey Ben, welcome to the rabbit hole that is Babymonster. Even though they debuted in Nov 2023, Ahyeon was on health hiatus, despite the other rumors, so it was more of an unofficial debut. I knew she would return eventually and when she did, it marked their official 7 member debut with the drop of their EP, BABYMONS7ER, and the title track, "Sheesh" on April 1, 2024. "Sheesh" to date has over 293 million views and Baemon has 4 of the top 5 MVs for most views in 2024 with Sheesh, Like That (123.8M), Stuck in the Middle (121.4M), and Forever (117.06M). Also Ben, I'm not sure how accurate this video is with position information but it gives you an idea of who these talented kids are. YG has never, to my knowledge, formally announced positions, Main, Lead, Center, etc, because they are all so talented each of them could easily fill any of those positions. Most Monstiez, our fandom name, and many reactors will comment that they are 7 vocalists, 7 Rappers, 7 dancers, 7 visuals, 7 centers with unique charisma and charm. However, Rami is special, IMO, when it comes to her vocals and Ruka is the most experienced, and best dancer according to the other members.

5:30 Yeah, a lot of these Japanese idol groups have _dozens_ of members at a time, but they don't all _perform_ at the same time. Usually it'll be a few of them together, I think at fairly small venues where they can interact with the fans a lot, and they have cycling memberships, as some members graduate onto other paths, and they bring new ones in. I've been meaning to say this for a while, but there's another girl group I'd love you to check out, because they're one my absolute _favourite_ groups, but they don't get anywhere near the recognition they deserve in my book... and that's Billlie. You've encountered them briefly (especially Tsuki) in a couple of your "moments" videos, but I'm not aware of you seeing much outside of that. If you check out an MV to start, GingaMingaYo is the _obvious_ one to go for. If you want to know a little more, I'd recommend Taejiu's video "The Most Underrated Group in Kpop". kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJyoknWfjseWqJI It's not really a guide (and it's about 18 months old, released last March), but it's a good overview of _why_ you should give them a try, with a few musical teasers to give you an idea. The 7 kids are different, have their own unique identity, and are diverse in the group. But... the popularity of the group members is still a matter of debate among fans.
