I moved from NC to CA in 2017. I hired movers...way too expensive (13K). Things broke and some items were missing, like my dyson vacuum, etc. I moved back to NC in 2022. I used PODS (a little over 8K).. best decision for me. I packed most of the items myself..after several moves, I learned!!!. Nothing broke.. I hired local movers to pack the POD and my landlord I was renting from in CA was OK for me to leave the POD in the driveway and it was picked up the day after I left. I drove back home. ..took me 3 days by myself. The POD arrived about 4 days later, but I wasn't ready so it was easy to pay for extra weeks of storage and then they delivered when I was ready. Glad to be back in NC and on the east coast. Lots of work to get my old house that was a rental for many years fixed up...but glad to be back in my home. ....Tip for packing hanging clothes. Don't take them off hangers.. Get x-large trash backs.. group clothes together and put in bags using the bag ties to wrap and tie around the hangers like a shoe lace/bow to keep the clothes in place. Easy to take out of bags and hang in closets at your new place...and you can reuse trash bags!! Good luck in your move.

thankfully the movers that we went with were really amazing, helped to wrap and package the bigger items. and best of all, nothing arrived broken or damaged! after looking at the PODS, they were just as expensive as standard movers and didnt include any of the loading or unloading. i used Roadway, paid out of my own pocket, and will use them again in the future 💖
