So poignant and on point. I see a lot of Nigerians here in the uk especially older ones just wasting away sitting around in Nigerian shops just bad mouthing Nigeria. Meanwhile they’ve nothing to contribute back home, nothing to show for all the years they’ve lived in the uk and have not been back to Nigeria in years. Those people are the worst advocates for Nigeria. Also Nigerians on Twitter will have you believe that it’s the worst country on earth that no one should ever visit but then you come on YT and it’s an entirely different vibes of positivity. Have followed your channel since your move and I must say I’ve really learnt a lot from you. There are positives and negatives of living in any country in the world and Nigeria is no different.

I really appreciated this update Iveoma. The story you told about the Nigerian man who was in Ukraine and didn’t want to come back because he hadn’t built anything is an a important and cautionary tale. We must build in our countries even if we’re in the diaspora.
@wordsbymaribeja14702 жыл бұрын
Just the comment I was about to write, and you've put it beautifully. For people to complain about Nigeria when they're outside of Nigeria but not being part of the solution is wild, and to build so much outside of Nigeria I just don't understand. For years I have wrestled with the question 'what is the goal when you leave Nigeria and raise children outside of Nigeria and badmouth your mother country?' Is the goal and vision to culturally and racially assimilate and no longer be Nigerian? This leaving, and not contributing anything other than disparaging Nigeria to anyone in earshot is wreckless at best but really just very dangerous to the people and the country that you've left.
@TitoDistrict2 жыл бұрын
@@wordsbymaribeja1470 That is very sweet of you to say. And I agree with you completely. There are so many Africans in the diaspora who moved away from the continent and get so comfortable in their new countries of residence. I don’t hear many of them talk about going back or contributing anything significant to make our countries back home better. I hope that trend is shifting with renewed interest from repats and returnees we’re seeing.

Sometimes abroad life is so hard and expensive that you can’t even afford paying your monthly bills , so there is no money to save for anything. We don’t know how hard it was for him to get his papers and to find a job . Plus he has a wife and kid . She didn’t mention if the other man has a family abroad . That will also make it much harder to save money with a family to take care of .

@@TitoDistrict some are not even comfortable just get stuck . It depends on where abroad they are . I’ve heard of people staying decades as illegal immigrants and they can never even go back to Nigeria for holiday . Or they have some situations that makes it so hard . Some have someone who gives them papers , but the spouse collects all his salary in return for the help . I’ve heard of one man who’s spouse waits outside his work place every payday and immediately collects his salary . How would such people save money. They must first endure until getting citizenship or something. It could take years and years . Sometimes the spouse won’t allow them to send money to Nigeria or even to visit. Nigeria is a beautiful country, I LOVE MY COUNTRY it has its challenges like Nepa 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ but its a beautiful country. Nigeria is stressful, but the level of stress reduce when you do not live in lagos, other cities are calm, less stressful. Less traffic, but still alot of opportunities available. Personally I wouldn't advise anyone Nigerian living abroad looking to move back to live in lagos straight away, I would advise them to live in other cities in the south or abuja (FCT) that are less stressful. Even I a real lagosian who grew up in mainland have no interest in moving back to lagos straight away in my transition back to Nigeria. LASTLY SAVE UP MONEY, THINGS FOR HOUSE, FARM AND PASSIVE INCOME

I see you cut your hair, have a tan, now speaking the lingo even got some pidgin going. Good for you. The reason moving to Nigeria works for you is because you have an option of moving back to the US if things end up not working out. I'm Nigerian-American left Nigeria for the US like 20 years ago, every time I think of moving back to Nigeria I get discouraged and disappointed especially whenever I come visiting. It's so bad even my wife who is also Nigerian-American doesn't even wanna come visit (Ironic because she was born with a silver spoon, and you'd think she'd love coming back but NOPE), So now we are thinking of buying a retirement home somewhere in East Africa like Kenya, Uganda. But I can't wait to come visiting with my kids to show them their roots (We had plans to ALL come down this year, but the security situation discouraged us, so we'll wait until after the elections). Hope you are OBIDIENT and you gone VOTE. We need good governance and security, because we miss Nigeria and wanna come back. Just realized I wrote up a full article in the comment section.

Most of that random niceness you would never experience if those people didn't percieve you to be someone in a comfortable status of living. Whether or not they get anything from you i'm not aware of, but yeah.... For anyone moving to Nigeria, just have money(atleast people should feel as though you do) and you should be fine.

Nah, I don’t give everyone money. People who have nothing have helped me and I didn’t have cash to give them. People have prayed over me and I didn’t have cash to give them. Sometimes when I have cash to give people, they reject it even when I force it. Lol Maybe it’s my spirit or I look like I am comfortable that attracts people to me. This is my reality here. Yup you should have money to move here. No reason you move from a developed nation to a developing nation without money or the ability to make money. Lol That is unwise especially in these hard times.
