I bought a used fully loaded 2003 Cayenne S in 2004 from Porsche Silverstone and sold it in 2009 due financial crisis. It performed brilliantly in 1 meter of snow & ice in Highland Perthshire -15C. I was rescuing the local local postman and delivery drivers regularly so a lot of fun. It suffered from brake fade if I drove it hard on the hills though. I even carried a chain saw in the back with protective equipment as we ofter had tress down blocking local rural roads. A few years ago I bought another 2003 Cayenne S silver with grey interior which I have today (4th owner). It's just topped 102,000 and I done 45,000 of those miles. It cost me £6K. I get around 22 mpg average milage and its well looked after. Just had new windscreen fitted (insurance) front discs, pads, and new tyres. I also got a set of winter rims and tyres with the car and spares! All in all I just love it! I've been driving Porsche since I was 16, first was a Porsche 911L sportomatic along the farm lanes of Hampshire before I had a license. When I look back at my 356 and then 911 days, 20 mpg was around average for a 911 on webers so my Cayenne at 2,400 kgs empty returning 22 mpg is brilliant.

I do think the first gen Cayenne wasn't appreciated because "That is not a Porsche" but what people didn't realise who much Porsche wanted into the SUV pie. So they really did want to make an impression. I am so impressed that VR6 can perform that well in that vehicle, and as always sounds so off beat. Great to see these older versions out and about, while new ones are now just a fashion statement, like the Range Rovers, I bet their owners have or want a Tesla too. I look forward to further updates on this adventure...

I loved my 600hp Cayenne. So fast. 16 years ago it must have been literally shocking. It’s gone as of last week as the 60 mile round trip to my son’s new house basically became financial suicide! 12mpg is a tough daily. I did my roof struts for the boot opener……A very fiddly job! A lovely design to hide the struts in the roof but not friendly to replace! I look forward to your video on them. They were cheapest on Amazon funnily enough. Enjoy the car 😊

There used to be someone in my village who owned one purely for prestige. They had two children, so it suffered quite a bit of abuse and was rarely cleaned either inside or out. It ended up at my local garage, having failed the MOT in what I nicknamed 'Rotten Row' where all the failures due for scrapping were left prior to their final journey to the scrap heap. Such a shame. 😢

I owned a cayenne S last year, was an absolute monster but because it was so fast for a 4x4 is was all to tempting to get my toe down at evry opportunity. £200 a month on petrol and i didn't even use it for work! It had to go.
@acooper103710 ай бұрын
On the early ones watch out for bore score, it dident affect the 6cylinder but did affect the 4.5 V8 which was why porsche dealers and specalist's dropped them. same with the coolant pipes at the top of the engine, and watch out for a slow starting engine, the starter motor is on the top of the engine (on the 4.8L anyway) at the back and is difficult to replace, cheap if you do it your self (which i did) but 2k + at a dealer. But they do handel unbelivably well🙂 and sound great.

ahhh so I just finished watching your L322 or Cayenne video. I guess you went 955. In NZ, there isn't much between 955 and 957. My mate just scored a 2009 GTS. Its soooo good. Proper car, so stable, so good sounding, it looks impressive, great badge, but it really is very impressive on the road, you don't need any more than that. I am going to get one. They are very well priced here...petrol is over $3.00/litre... that doesn't help, diesel is much cheaper, but if you are looking at a 4.4 tdv8...then it's closing ranks for sure. But Porsche reliability I think wins it.

Over 22 years I've owned the range and can honestly say my 911- 991.2 is outstandingly the best. However my 2008 Cayenne (went to Mayrhofen skiing) was I thought brilliant - then in 2015 with BMW's in between I went back to Porsche via a Macan. Oh so much better, so in my opinion and for my situation I'd go Macan over Cayenne any day. Each to their own.😄 Note: my local Porsche dealership (Tewkesbury) let me have a Taycan for a long weekend while the Panamera I had at that time was being prepared - don't touch 'em!!

Looks like you got lucky with a well cared for example, but there are far too many horror stories online and on pistonheads to really lure the average person into a Cayenne 1st gen. A lot of what you've said I disagree with. Regarding maintenance, you're most likely to get big bills when it comes to the work in one go with the older cars. The buttons on the steering wheel to changing gears in any Porsche is an awful idea and many people will retro fit the flappy paddles from Mercedes on Boxsters for example. You've tried hard to be positive about what is pretty much one of the worst cars Porsche made.

V8 sounds better and not much more fuel consumption, especially if you are flooring the V6! The air suspended cars are S M O O T H!
@ogearhead242610 ай бұрын
The air suspension doesn’t really change the car’s stiffness. Even tho it changes the way it drives, doesn’t get comfier. Including the new Cayenne, might very well be the worst car in comfort on its category! The RSQ8 also suffers the same.

@ogearhead242610 ай бұрын
@@GoldenCroc my reference for comfort is Range Rovers and Volvos, I do also believe that the Touareg is much more comfortable, but the Cayenne… nah, it’s really stiff. I didn’t meant to say that there’s no difference between the Cayenne with air ride and the one without it, but I don’t think it’s comfortable with it either. For me, it doesn’t change the stiffness, just change the way we feel it. Is it understandable? 😂
@GoldenCroc10 ай бұрын
@@ogearhead2426 Ok, as it was written it seemed like you meant 955 with vs without air suspension. I would say with is softer for sure, if you use "high" mode which is taller than steel sprimg stock, thats more like "low" mode on air. Dont forget you can adjust damper hardness as well. Not night and day, but difference is there on "high" with "comfort" damper setting. Other cars can be much softer still, yes. Cayenne 955/957 is certainly a firm base setup compared to most SUV of its time.

@Manu-Official10 ай бұрын
Errrr, inevitable repairs. I would expect a full maintenance history to make sure the previous owner did not cheap out. I have seen some at the local specialist getting some heavy work done. Though at under £4k, that leaves some room for the maintenance. I'd push a little extra to get the S, 200 more BHP has near double the power, and will get double with a decent remap...
