Great tutorial, Jack! Just wanted to let you know a couple of important features that Shotcut has added since your last tutorial for it so that you can let your viewers know in a future tutorial. You were experiencing lag in playback. Shotcut actually has added solutions to avoid the video playing laggy. First way to take care of lag is to use preview scaling. Preview scaling is in settings. It helps the processing of the video filters and also when overlaying clips on top of one another like when you added the lower thirds so that the lag is eliminated or at least reduced. The second feature is proxy. That's also in settings. When you turn on proxy in settings Shotcut starts making them in the background while you continue to work. As soon as each proxy for a clip is finished it will replace the clips in your project with its proxy as you are working. So if you are experiencing lag you use preview scaling first and if you are still getting bad lag you can combine preview scaling with proxy so it can eliminate lag from all corners. People with slower computers using Shotcut will especially find both preview scaling and proxy to be real life savers! I hope you try them out for yourself so the next time you make a Shotcut tutorial you can show them to your viewers. 🙂

For starters, I am definitely a noob to video editing but I have a BIG question in regards to file size. I have edited 3 gaming videos and each edited video is larger than the raw recorded video, WHY? For example, I recorded a 2.1GB gaming episode of 7 Days to Die. After doing basic editing to the raw video, just cutting out about 15-20 minutes of the recording, I ended up with a 3.5GB file. I used no effects on the editing at all, it was just straight up cutting unwanted content. How is this mp4 raw formatted recording getting larger after I remove video content with Shotcut. Not sure of what other detail to provide, but assistance would be appreciated from anyone on why this is happening for my edited videos.

Which codec is used in original file? H264 or h265/hevc? What about the bitrate? You can customize various aspects like codec, bitrate, profile etc in export settings. Play with those. I mainly use nvenc_hevc(nvenc h265) to export. I also use 9000k bitrate.
