Those are the wrong pistons for that engine. Those have to be stock bore size pistons and the engine is at least .020 over. I'd get a bore mic and check the bore size and then mic the pistons. That's not on you, that's on your engine builder. Check the rings too, leave the heads alone and make them replace the pistons and rebuild the rotating assembly.

Your motor had issues before it ever started. Either those bores are too large for the piston or rings weren't right for the application. I'm betting on the bore size being wrong for the piston and rings. E85 didn't do this.

Just a heads up I use to work at a gas station at night so I did the auditing. Most places use water at the bottom of the tanks. If it gets to low they fill it with more so the pump can pick it up since the actual fuel pump can pick it up. What could have happened is you might have gotten a lot of water with the fuel since it was running now enough that the pump couldn't pick it up so they added water to raise the fuel. But it wasn't late enough time for the fuel to raise above the water completely

My thoughts too, wrong sized pistons. It was fine while the rings were wearing in and the engine was hot but after a heat cycle the rings shrunk back down and don't have enough spring to seal. That is way too much slop for a new engine, since its visible in the camera. The question is who didn't catch in on install.

I don’t know a whole lot about engines honestly but you can learn a lot just from what we’ve seen here, and I think confidently enough to say that if the issue isn’t or wasn’t the pistons I’m thinking, with the whole break in period thing manufacturers give a rev limit you shouldn’t exceed before the given mileage and I have no doubt you’d take care with such a project but having so much horsepower and being so fresh could make revving over that limit really easy while downshifting causing that blow by which is caused by the rings not yet being sealed if I’m not mistaken and obviously if this were common it would be a known issue but that looks super plausible to me not to discount the skill and care of our host 😎

Your roots style blower may have had a restriction on the fresh air side . And started pulling a lot more oil from the pvc and that’s how you get oil in a blower and its feeding the motor with oil and air from the pvc side your vacuum side . This happened to me as well in the first 300 miles . The air filter got plugged by it getting wet and a rag was blocking off most of the air flow . So the blower has to get air from someplace. Your oil filled valve covers. I hope this help .

Another factor is how the engine was broken in. Most builders want the engine to be broken in in city driving where there isnt many spots where you keep the revs at a constant. The road trip could be an issue when explaining it to the builder as it's not a common way of breaking in a built engine and there might areas where the rings and bearings bed in more aggressively than others due to that.

@Itsjusta6 So here’s a few things that could of went wrong. 1. Running E85 during break in caused the piston rings to get washed and not actually seal up. Yes I know you’ve done this before and never had issues but running e85 during first start can cause the rings to get washed happened to me before especially if you did what you said you did kept the car on cruise control on the freeway never gave the car a chance the seat the rings. 2. A valve steam seal got damaged during install and caused insane amount of blow by I would check those 2 things Maybe compare the cross hatches on the cylinders to what they looked like when you got the short block back from the machine shop/ engine builder Another thing is poor honing on the cylinders and never gave it a chance to seat again.

@brucepeterson32464 жыл бұрын
You should pull one of the pistons and inspect the rings along with measuring piston diameter and cylinder diameter with a micrometer. I suspect you will find your problem there. Also a good time to check the bottom end for any oil starvation damage. Also, inspect the supercharger and all the tubes attached to it and the intercooler to confirm the oil path was not from the intake. Before you removed the engine you should have verified the crankcase pressure. Since every cylinder was affected, the oil path was from common intake components or a systemic assembly error which allowed oil to enter the cylinder. Valve guide seals are pretty hard to screw up and I think Doug is talented enough to install them properly. lastly, be sure to check the exhaust circuit for damaged O2 sensors or fouled cats from all the oil that passed through the engine.

It is normal for pistons to rock some by hand like that, they expand as they heat up and take that clearance away. Not sure what pistons in particular you have there, but it looks like a telltale sign of some missing oil ring support rails. It is a ring that serves as the bottom oil ringland, required in pistons that have the wristpin boss bored through the oil ringland.

I'm sure there's a new vid showing what happened but my guess is, the slop in the pistons from being under sized caused extreme crank case pressure that pushed your oil through the egr and into the intake. That much pressure will bypass the catch cans and flood your intake and choke out the motor. Possible ring gap alignment as well on top of it. Job security!

When valves don't open on the vacuum stroke, the oil can be sucked into the combustion chamber. Which sounds like a valve timing issue. But the more I think about this, one thing to check is oil in the vacuum lines. Have you checked the oil level in the blower gearbox? With the wear on the cams, that says the oil was not make it to the top of the heads. Which would mean a faulty head gasket or cracked head.

Those sandy deposits on the valve are from the oil burning. As I said on the previous video, you have a ring and/or piston/cylinder sizing issue. Either someone measured something wrong or built it really “loose” since you were doing forced induction

Check your pcv check valve and make sure it actually works. With that said, your intake valves actually shut a little after bottom dead center and that recompression will shoot some air/fuel (in this case oil as well) back into the Intake manifold where other cylinders will burn it as well. I think cylinder 2 definitely has a problem that needs to be addressed, what you are seeing on the other cylinders could honestly be just from dynamic compression profile of the cam.

My suggestion is to get a good look at valve seals. I've had new valve seals installed on a fresh engine and they were fine on install but when fed rpm and power, they literally came off the boss and would PUMP oil into the cylinders. That caused my engine to burn a quart every 50 miles easily. They could have used the wrong seal that didn't hold on it's seat.

A seal could also be crushed or Crooked and running the engine made it worse
