I got a 2012 MacBook Pro quad-core i5 model in Sept of 2015, and nearly a year later (after having problems after problems), it gave out on me in Sept of 2016. I had previously gone to the Apple store to get it "repaired" about 10 times, but none of those times did they fix anything. Even the last time, before it died, when I got it back, it was actually returned to me in worse condition than before I handed it over for repairs (it had a huge dent in it for whatever reason). Right before it completely gave out on me, it was just going crazy; it wouldn't charge whatsoever, because even though it was at 27% (right before it gave out on me), the MagSafe charger was green (showing that it was fully charged even though it wasn't). It would also spontaneously shut off completely without warning, causing me to lose anything I was working on because it wouldn't save anything. And the more I tried to use it, its on-time would consistently decrease, until it finally gave out on me (I was desperately attempting to backup all of my files before it gave out completely). So, after it was completely dead and useless, I went to the Apple store only for them to point me into the direction of the MacBook Airs, and to insist that I buy a new MacBook Air as a replacement... I got very angry, but continued to ask them about my data on my HDD, since I couldn't back it up. And they responded that it would cost me $100 or so for them to backup my data. I got even more angry and in a sense started to yell at them because this wasn't fair whatsoever. And they might've gotten the notion because they came back with an Apple bag, and handed me a receipt with a total of $0. I looked in the bag and there it was: a brand new 2015 MacBook Pro. Honestly it was both an upgrade and a downgrade, in a sense that it had a better screen, WAY better battery life, better selection of ports, and was thinner, but it was a dual-core i5 model with 120GB storage, which was a little upsetting because my original MacBook Pro had a quad-core and 500GB of storage. I can't really complain much, since I got an absolute free replacement, but with the loss of all of my important files. I have now learned to store all of my files on an external HDD, because there is close to no space on my new MBP, but is useful in case something bad happens to it, because then I have a backup. Well I'm glad I let that all out lol. I am sure no one got to the end of my novel which I just wrote :D

Does your rMBP bottom creak at all? I don't know if I was just unlucky with some build quality issues, minor but annoying in a 2700 dollar machine...Bottom creaks around the right middle screw which seems loose, the black hinge clutch creaks and pops when pressed, and when the lid is closed it's a millimetre or two from being flush with the body.

@TimurTripp29 жыл бұрын
+Jason Almont You can Hackintosh an iMac G4 if you simply think it looks neat. But if you actually love it, you can't do that. A Hackintosh is not an iMac G4 to love, it's a different identity with a deceiving appearance. To love an iMac G4 is to max out the RAM, put in an SSD, attach Apple Pro Speakers, install Mac OS X Leopard. And then, it will love you back to the best of its ability.
@jasonalmont75729 жыл бұрын
+Timur Tripp I agree, I've got one complete iMac G4 that'll never come apart and then this 20" that came to me in pieces that's getting the hackintosh treatment just so I can get some modern use out of a design I love just like the imnc powermac g4. I'd never destroy a complete working G4.

Coll video Tom :) Though I don't think PowerPC Macs are that dead. I reckon so long as you don't go into it expecting to be able to use them for everything you'd do on an Intel mac, and you're aware of what does and doesn't work, and willing to make some sacrifices, they can be great. And people make stuff to help out like TenFourFox, YouView, that funky transmission version that supports magnet links, there's even a workaround to get Skype working on OS's as old as Panther. And Spofity still works, though it's a bit weird sometimes.

My PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz can still manage to do some things decently, browse the web, go on Facebook, (even play youtube videos!) and a bunch of other things, and it's only running on the minimum of RAM (512MB) Imagine what it'd be with it's max 2 GB. 1.5 isn't even as fast as they made them, the 1.67 is faster and has a better video card as well. I would see if you can find a Power Mac G5 if you were to ever think of doing it again, it'd be awesome to try and get one of the Twin Dual-Core 2.5 G5's for it, if you could find one that doesn't break the bank of course.

Why are you running a 1000W PSU with a low powered i7 and GTX 960? Even if you threw in two 980 Tis and a octa core i7 I seriously doubt you could get it to push 800W...
@alfhonikmusic8 жыл бұрын
HipsterPolice Reliability. That's it. When you're running a machine that you just want to work no matter what for years and years, having lots of headroom on power and good power supply is key. You don't need it. But it's a great investment for long time reliability.
@Mattdude4118 жыл бұрын
AWEEDEN Official Except when this machine can barely pull more than 200W at absolute max load (which will not happen 99.9% of the time), you're getting significantly worse power efficiency than if you were using something like a 650W PSU, which, is already overkill for this build anyway. My OCed i5-6600K and GTX 1080 uses a high quality EVGA 550W PSU and with the same usage, will likely be not only far more efficient but will last as long, if not longer than if I was using a 1000W PSU, which will use more power under the exact same load, and as a result will last longer due to more wear under the capacitors. It won't make a significant difference in the long run whether you're running a good 600W or 1200W PSU, but your "reliability" comment is false information to say that having a 1000W PSU is actually better than a PSU that will work at its 50% efficiency for longer. And ESPECIALLY when it's a Hackintosh which won't even be guaranteed to work after every update I don't think he's expecting it to work for years and years.
@AlexCheerNZ8 жыл бұрын
I would love to know where you find that a GTX 960 plus a i7 only would use 200W, considering the GTX 950 is recommended to use at least a 400W PSU
@Mattdude4118 жыл бұрын
A GTX 950 does recommend a 400W PSU but it doesn't mean that it uses 400W. It just means that a 400W PSU would be optimal in a setup with a GTX 950, hence "recommended", and the comment above where I mentioned "50% efficiency". An i7, especially a non-overclockable i7 would use around 60W at 100% load, as I said, will never realistically be happening, along with a GTX 960 which will take 120W at absolute max load, which again, does not happen very often. That's 180W right there. Let's factor in RAM, 4 sticks would use around 2-10W, and hard drives, each would use 5W when reading/writing. Giving the rest of the build some power, let's say 40W, and that's ~240W when every single part in your computer is stressed. Honestly, every time you use your computer do you use every part as hard as possible? In conclusion the "recommended PSU" means nothing to how many watts the PC actually uses. So I'm not saying a 200W PSU is good enough (which it isn't), but it only uses around 200W in total, which a 400W PSU would be perfect as it hits that 50% efficiency. I didn't "find" that info, I actually know it from my experience in testing out multiple configs of hardware from GTX 960/970/980 Ti/1060/1070/1080/R9 390 with i5-4590/i5-4690K/i7-4790K/i5-6600K/i7-6700K builds and examining actual power usages from the wall (I never hit over 375W even from my old i7-4790K/980 Ti, doesn't that say something?). Still don't believe me, buy a Kill-A-Watt meter and plug in an i7-6700/GTX 960 build in and run a stress test.

I love your content! I had 6 computers in my Apple collection, but I sold them all because my parents forced me. I had a PowerMac G5, PowerMac G4, iMac G3, PowerBook G4 12, iBook G3 Clamshell. I sold the G3 because the screen cracked, my fault, a shame, sold the PowerMac G5 because my dad complained it was taking too much space, my house is small, but i'm looking for one to buy now. I found one with a 2.5Ghz Dual 6GB of RAM for $115 but it literally just sold :( I sold my G4 because I tried to flip it for profit, and I did. I bought it at my local thrift store for $15. Issue was bad hard drive, no big deal, had a 160GB Drive laying around, Installed panther, and boom. Sold for like $50 i think. Shipping caused most of the profit to go away but whatever. iMac G3 had a flyback transformer problem, CRT was bad. Bought at a thrift store for $30 and was given away to another thrift store because same problem with G5, dad complaining about space. Sold the 12 inch G4 because hard drive went bad and I don't have the MLG skillz to take it apart and put it back together again without loosing all the screws and not putting shit in the wrong places, so sold for $30. Also sold the clamshell for parts because again screen was broken...
@carsorsomethingidk8 жыл бұрын
+Erik I also sold a 15 inch PowerBook G4 1.67 maxed 2GB RAM that i really regret selling. I'm actually in the process of buying it back as i emailed the person I sold it to on eBay and he says he doesn't use it anymore and is happy to sell it back to me lol. so yaay. Just hope he didn't fuck it up lol because it was immaculate when I bought it. Probably getting that for a steal. I just bought a 17 Inch PowerBook G4 today with a 1Ghz G4 and 512MB RAM. I got it for $65 shipped!!! going to eventually upgrade RAM. It didn't have a battery or RAM cover but I already ordered the RAM cover so that's solved. Just have to get a battery and it's all set. I sold all my apple collection in the past, but i'm starting to be in that retro vibe again, so i'm going to try to buy back all of what I used to have and more :). So that's my really long story. I don't blame you if you don't write TL;DR, but just felt like sharing. Love your videos bro. Keep it up.
