@EugeneKhutoryansky9 жыл бұрын
You could theoretically have an artificial cubic planet of the size described. The inside of the planet could just be a skeletal support structure, rather than a solid mass, so as to avoid the problem of having so much gravity that it causes the planet to collapse in on itself.
@SmartGuy2029 жыл бұрын
That is a point. Since the average thickness of the minable are is around 64 blocks (64 meters) before you hit bedrock, and beyond that is just a void where you can fall to your death, simple geometry would show that planet minecraft is hollow.
@flyingmobias9 жыл бұрын
+Physics Videos by Eugene Khutoryansky Yeah, but also it may not have to avoid having a solid mass. If a solid-mass earth was flat, as described in the video, it would still be mostly fine on 4 sides, but it's just basically impossible to occur naturally. I see that as the only restriction. I might have missed something on how shape affects gravity? (It doesn't, mass does, right?)
@doomdoot67319 жыл бұрын
+SmartGuy202 if that thing were only 64 meters deep, I highly doubt it would have enough gravitational power to stick together. I mean, yeah, sure it's quite large and all, but if it really is hollow for about 99%, the size doesn't actually matter- it's "light" as f*.
@SmartGuy2029 жыл бұрын
+Overlord IV Just take a look in game, average sea level height is at Y:63. Bedrock is Y:1. Below that is just a void. but as far as the gravity stuff is concerned, your right. It would be far too light to keep itself together like that, assuming the nether isn't down there, but that's still questionable if that would be enough.
@flyingmobias9 жыл бұрын
People and plants can't be cubic as far as we know either, if we're going to critically look at things. They likely break some laws of physics about blood circulation and heart shape, for example. Ignoring the underlying logistics is poor quality hypothesizing :P Maybe one could engineer genes that make the organism that way? The planet would have to be full sized to have gravity like earth. But who knows, maybe there are future ways of getting around this with artificial gravity, in our universe. Maybe we can engineer a cpu simulation universe where everything is the same as ours except with slightly different rules of physics that allows for shallow planets, and with fully aware self-learning creatures. Speaking of which it could be us. (But it's not falsifiable...)
@besmart9 жыл бұрын
To everyone who has commented about the possibility of a hollow planet (based on the void you hit beneath bedrock) and the "flat plane in space" idea, we thought about these possibilities when doing this episode… we found them to be so far-fetched and unsciencey (yes, even more far-fetched than a cubic planet) that we wouldn't have been able to to find any useful scientific lessons there. That's why we went with the cube planet! But I hope everyone keeps discussing these other options in the comments! :)

The mass calculation for the Minecraft world is *definitely* wrong - Minecraft only has blocks between levels 0 and 128 (give or take depending on the mods installed). +Luís Pereira You're referring to the one theory where the one moon from a particular video game was just a lunar crust surrounding a black hole, aren't you? (I'm curious because I saw something like that in a different video.) Assuming the void is just really, really deep and not infinite, that would explain how you fall into the void. Maybe... Maybe that's how you die in the void: the hollow volume inside cubeworld wouldn't be enough to have a breathable atmosphere since the volume inside would be far greater than the volume of any one face's atmospheres, and you die from lack of oxygen and/or atmospheric pressure first rather than, say, tidal forces.

Good video. The minecraft world has unbreakable/unmovable bedrock at a relatively shallow depth and just void underneath, so I'd be interested in the physics of that. Although an unmovable block isn't very realistic, it's probably model-able though.

this is my favorite video ever. addressing the "hollow earth" theory, the fog you see might just be a very heavy gas. putting that into consideration, that would be what pulls you into the void. since it's heavy, there will be quite the amount of gravity, and that will trap you there. the game ends your life so that you can still just BE.

You forgot to include the height from which you jump, and the fact that the atmosphere moves with us. This is why rocket launches, airplanes, and satellites need to account for curves. The further away from Earth's surface you are, the faster it seems to spin under you. This only truly matters when the atmosphere is very thin, and the height from which you fall is above the clouds.
@ryansamarakoon82688 жыл бұрын
ChaseRiver3089 Fly high as you can in Mine craft and stay there for a couple hours, then fall down. You will land in the exact block you were on. Dig a hole and fly up, fall and you land inside. if gravity pulls you at 45 degrees relative to the ground and the ground changes orientation by 90 degrees...you will still be pulled by gravity at a 45degrees angle relative to the ground. the only way you could walk off the planet is if the gravity was so weak on the planet in the first place that it was barely able to prevent you from reaching escape velocity with a normal jump where gravity is the strongest on the planet.
@jehooft85695 жыл бұрын
I have a theory: we know Minecraft doesn't go too deep when you dig down, after around 60-80 meters when digging straight from the surface you already get to bedrock. We already know that bedrock is an extremely strong and durable material, which is what is keeping us out of the void. Now here is the thing: in a cubic world this large, gravity would normally crush us. However, the minecraft world is only 80 meters deep, and its core is all void. A void with a black hole at its center, just massive enough to keep everyone at the surface of the Minecraft world feeling an earthlike gravity. The void damage comes from the vacuum of space that exists there, which bedrock keeps out. But that's just a theory, a game theory

You wouldn't walk off into space by passing the edge, in the same way that you wouldn't walk off into space by passing a mountain ridge here on earth.
@MariusMeyer09 жыл бұрын
+Dinosaur Emperor I had the exact same thought, but you beat me to the comment. I agree with you 100%, what he said does not make sense. Going off the side of one edge will only have gravity make you "stick" to the next edge.

+Dinosaur Emperor The difference is phenomeon, a mountain on earth is like the scratch on a billiard ball. a Cube world as such is completly different
@rdizzy19 жыл бұрын
+Dinosaur Emperor Thats not a correct comparison, your comparing a round planet with high peaks to a perfectly flat side of planet with edges of a cube. (and gravity as we know it , couldn't exist anyways, because like he said, the planet would then become round.

@asterope16048 жыл бұрын
I am sorry but the math of your minecraft world size is wrong, if the width of a minecraft world is 68.7 million meters (68.7 thousand kilometers) and Uranus is approximately 50.7 thousand kilometers than a minecraft world is just a bit bigger then Uranus, not THAT much bigger than the sun. You must have had a verbal typo, ou said that a minecraft world is "68.7 BILLION METERS by 68.7 million METERS, which equals an area of 4 quadrillion KILOMETERS," I think you were meant to say meters. The minecraft world isn't that big. :) So the area of one face of the minecraft world is about 4 billion kilometers squared, so that times 6 cube faces = 28.3 billion square kilometers, and Jupiter is about 68 billion kilometers squared.

i WAS about to comment about "Minecraft's laws of physics are different than our own", till he pointed that out in the video. GG on realizing that possibility.
@nickybuttons64437 жыл бұрын
Considering how odd gravity behaves on the Minecraft world amongst other workings its safe to assume that if minecraft were real it would take place in a seperate universe with different laws of physics. Roughly the same so as to make it similar to ours in many ways but slight changes making things like supermassive cube planets and floating blocks (so long as the material is atleast a little stable IE stone and wood versus sand and loose gravel) possible. I like that theory, as it also explains lots of other things. Like a void (possible mini black hole?) making up the core of the planet and why absolutely everything is a cube or is square in nature. Different laws of physics, so why not.
@caps_lock7 жыл бұрын
4:14 black holes don't have to be massive... i could talk (comment i guess) hours about this phenomenon, only i do not have much time. the point is, every object has a "event horizon" (part of a black hole that is actually black), but it lies very deep beneath anything's crust (this is because gravity gets stronger the closer you are to the body) if we do not call a black hole. but, this means that you could squeeze earth to the size of a peanut, and it would be a black hole. and relatively speaking, earth is not too massive. Have a nice but ruined day.

In the Minecraft universe, it can be assumed that the laws of physics work differently, and so all the atoms and molecules of that universe, rather than being rounded like they are in our universe, are cubic, and so therefore form together to create simplistic cubes and squares.

2:42-2:50 Or are they? On the surface, perhaps there isn’t much complex life. But beneath the ice? There could be a massive subglacial ocean, like on Jupiter, or large subglacial lakes, like in Antarctica, heated by geothermal activity. Perhaps this could be a new “dimension” only accessible by portal, with the same size as an overworld face. Perhaps the player might fight leviathans there or find the frozen remains of an ancient civilization. The portal would be like a nether portal in orientation, except made out of blue ice and blackstone, or something like that. Also, you’d need a blue firework to ignite it. Just not sure what to call it, something more creative than just, “the poles.”

4:21 Maby ther is a black hole witch is the void and bedrock (witch protects us from the void)is some type 12 (the point on the kardeshev scale at witch a civilisation is harnessing all power in the omniveres witch is all the dimensions and universe ) civilisation material that can withstand black holes and the nether and end are different dimensions. These Minecraft people are actually just the type 12 civilisation. edit:for part tow explan the nether and for part three explain the end (btw pleas do more parts this is actually something that a lot of people might like.

My theory is that the Minecraft world is actually a flat plane situated above a super-massive black hole's "ringularity" (a ring shaped singularity stretched out by the centrifugal force from the black hole's spin) and that the sun, moon, and stars are all inside the same black hole, but are orbiting the ringularity while the Minecraft planet's indestructible bedrock layer protects it from being completely torn apart. I know. I know. Roche limit. But what if all these things directly impacted the black hole rather than being sucked in?
@opluyzed15103 жыл бұрын
yes the mc world border has a limit but it expands even more if you get closer, from what I've heard at least so the generation would last forever even if it didn't, just beyond our view if bigger planets have much more gravity because of how much mass there is, the mc world could possibly have infinite gravity making everything weigh infinity so this could also mean steve can hold infinite kg with just one piece of wood

1.) Maybe just the 30,000 kilometers of area from the spawn to the world border would be accounted for in this case, leading to an object with a total surface area of 21.6 billion kilometers, still huge but much smaller than the numbers in this video. 2.) one idea is that the Minecraft blocks aren't perfect cubes, they are slightly trapezoidal, leading to a spherical object on a large scale.
