Everything you mentioned can be said for Guyanese-American Hindu weddings in America. The "older folks" overhyped the Guyana Hindu weddings. I see nothing much more special about them in ARD's videos compared to the weddings here in the states. As someone who immigrated from Guyana to New York at age 8 and spent the last 22 years in New York, I have nothing negative to say about them because there's a 90% chance that I'll get married in Guyana in that same fashion and even invite ARD to my wedding. But I don't see how these weddings in Guyana are "much better" or "much nicer" than the weddings here in Schenectady or Queens. The deejays and music selections are subpar to what you'd get here in the states (as seen in ARD's video's). You'll get dim lights/dancefloor lights/disco lights. You'll have air conditioning in the banquet halls. You'll get the same exact food that the people cooked in this video unless you opt for maybe South Asian food. There's never congestion on the dancefloor considering that most wedding receptions are held at banquet halls. People are better dressed for the weddings here in New York. You won't see a grown man at a reception in blue jeans, a basic white shirt, in flip flops/slippers, with no jewelry on. As for the "so much drinks", you'll have a licensed bartender at the hall reception who will be able to make Cocktail drinks for the ladies who aren't so big on beer, rum, whiskey, and vodka. Again, I leave this message saying that I will most likely get married in the same fashion in Guyana that we've seen in this video but let's not overrate the weddings in Guyana.

I am from Canada, was born and raised in Srilanka. I always wonder what my children and their children's life would be like after few generation pass, the guyanese life style explains after few generations, our tradition would still live but in a more modern and westernized. Food, hindu rites, family gathering are still the same, its in our south Asians blood. It must have been tough for your ancestors to leave india and come to a foreign country andnstart all over. They also lost long distance contact with their loved ones from india. Atleast we have an internet in this generation to keep long distance contact with our people back home. Respect 🇨🇦

Yeah man, it’s tough for those who wish to understand their genealogy. As for me, I’m of African decent. We didn’t get the opportunity to decide, we were captured, beaten and transported directly to the sugar plantation through the “middle passage”. In addition, we were separated on arrival, via the “divide and conquer” method. One family member to Guyana, another to Trinidad, another Barbados, and so on. It’s really messed up, but for some reason or the other, in Guyana we continually find ways to smile and move on. Except for when election time comes around. The divide and rule method still resides in our politician who taps into it in the populist.

@timche1757 my granny explained this to me. We're of Indo Guyanese descent and I migrated to Toronto when I was 10 years old. I've always been fascinated by my ancestors and how they ended up in Guyana. My grandmother said her maternal grandmother and her grandmother's sister were captured from India (Madras) as small children and taken to Guyana to work on the sugar plantation and my great great grandmother's sister always wanted to go back to India not knowing if she would ever be accepted or even have family there. She died in Guyana and never got married. My granny said the blacks were treated worse than the Indians and used as breeding animals if they were good looking. It was so sad listening to how the white people treated the Indians and blacks then and how racial slurs and crimes are still a problem in Guyana now especially between Indians and Blacks especially during the elections. My heart breaks for our history 💔 😢 with everything my family went through I'm grateful for them to have the common sense to stay in Guyana when given the chance especially how the world is nowadays :(

I does watch Guyanese wedding how they are welcome anybody who get invitation or not, in Trinidad they have a security by the gate and you have to show them your invitation card before you enter inside as they not letting you in and they monitor your food and drinks, I love Guyana the way people does live
@shampersaud27633 жыл бұрын
@@michelleharry6913 Yes, that's true, they cater for about a dozen people or more who are not invited. We had weddings in the past, and treated people the same. It is customary. Hindus are quite hospitable and opened to others as well as Muslims. Christians are a bit different,, very much formal and most of the times, weddings are done in a hall so they have to show their invitations.

To season or not to season meat before currying, isn't a Guyanese/Trini difference, it is more about the traditional Indian way. Using masala; frying up the curry, there was no need to season the meat beforehand due to the stronger spices. The older generation would often grind their own spices or use them whole. In places like Jamaica, where they do not cook with masala (results in a weaker curry) so they often season the meat before to add an extra layer of flavour. Many Jamaicans don't fry-up or "burn" the curry before, because they believe it guh wuk or run yuh belly lol

Hi Denny, you're doing a wonderful job, we love your videos! We hail from Ajax, in Ontario, Canada (near Toronto). Our entire family anticipates your weekly posts including our 5 year old daughter. For our meat, we always preseason before cooking curry. Reason being is it offers the meat a chance to tenderize while adding more flavor. Both contributing to amazing tasting food. Although we are Guyanese, my dad lived in Trinidad for sometime and perhaps this is where he may have adopted it!
