I enjoyed your video; thank you. My take on Jack Kirby can be summed up this way: if you take the spirits of Homer and Michelangelo , and you put them together in one incarnation, you have Jack Kirby. As far as Stan Lee goes, yes, he was a marketing genius, it's true. To his everlasting disgrace, that wasn't enough for him; his narcissism made him claim credit for Jack Kirby's storytelling genius. In short ,he completely betrayed the man who built the foundation of his fame and fortune. The late Mr. Lee was an awful man, in my opinion.

Jack Kirby was a loving father and a creative force in comics. he was abused by the industry that he helped create. ALL HAIL THE KING!

Dude, you’re such a well-informed young man. If I was to direct an indie film with a young David Bowie talking about his undocumented love of comics, you’d be SO cast. As for the video, you summed things up very well. What comes to mind for me is friend and former assistant Mark Evanier’s comment that Jack Kirby isn’t just part of the history of comics, he IS comics. You mentioned Simon and Kirby's romance books; what I’d like to add is the team is credited with CREATING the genre-and as someone who always had zero interest in romance comics, let me say they're damn good. As for Jack seeing active duty in WWII, well, those crazy, harrowing experiences were something he dreamed about the rest of his life, and if you got together with the man he’d just as soon talk war stories as he would comic books. Along with the Lower East Side/Brooklyn upbringing you pointed out, those real-life sources fed not just his printed work but his world view. And if anyone wants to read some of the best war comics EVER (Neil Gaiman says they’re the only ones he’s ever really enjoyed and I’m in the same boat), check out Jack’s short run on DC’s The Losers. They’re basically Kirby-fied versions of his war years and, I shit you not, possibly the BEST stuff he ever did. Keep up the good work. I’m gonna watch your Grant Morrison video next. Grant has always given serious props to Jack as a WRITER, so I have mad respect for him; and if anyone is The King’s heir apparent in how they approach comics, it’s Mr. Morrison.

@@simonedwards5564 Good one. Then there's the Brit dreaming about being killed by a demon in Burma; the black American and a white German runners reliving their Olympic race across a mine field; the Kirby-sized Nazi cannon, Big Max, being destroyed with the help of a sci-fi/comic geek. For those who say the King couldn’t write, just hand ‘em The Losers collection. The actual WWII stuff he went through, combined with his own larger-than-life sense of scale and drama, is, for me at least, more engaging and readable and fun than any war book DC, EC, or Warren ever put out.

Nice to see Kirby's influenced done so well he's not as well known but he deserves recognition only Bill Finger is discredit for work he did and I think support should be given on a more public scale for the people who worked on such influential works

I can't wait for your next videos. Thank you so much for this. The king of comics needs to be heard. He created so many character. It is sad both companies treat all their writers bad in those days. I hated that Stanley taken too much credit for Kirbys work. Wished people know who is the true king of comics

I'm excited for Grant Morrison. Non-comicbook writers like J. R. R. Tolkien, H. P. Lovecraft, C.S. Lewis, J.K. Rowling were huge influences for my favorite genre of storytelling. But of all the writers that I know of, Grant Morrison and Neil Gaiman were a huge contributing factor to my admittedly unhealthy obsession with mysticism, mythology, and the occult🤔.

What about the creator of Spider-Man? I mean Steve Ditko, he died in 2018 too, just 5 months before Stan Lee died and nobody cared. But when the mascot of Marvel dies everybody loses their minds. Thank you Steve Ditko for Spider-Man and Doctor Strange.
