In the time that you were trying to open the lock, i ordered some real picks from amazon (without prime or express delivery) waited for them to arrive, watched a tutorial on how to lock pick, learnt then picked the lock. then, i went in my house submitted a review on the lock picks and also i liked the tutorial then looked back at this video and you just finished.

Yeah.... i'm wondering what that 'picking' technique is; it looks rather clumsy. Took 2 minutes because he's trying to use brute force rather than carefully poking at the binding pin.

HOLY MOLY…IT WORKS!! My mom locked herself out of her bedroom, and everything she had was in her room, her cell, her clothes, her contact solution, so she couldn't wait till the morning. AND I WATCHED THIS…AND I JUST OPENED HER DOOR! Your awesome! totally keeping this in mind for other emergencies. Thanks, it saved a call to the locksmith!

OMG! That was downright orgasmic! It took 40 minutes from beginning to end, having to retool my paper clips a couple of times, and switching out the paper clip that I used for bracing for a smaller one. Thank you to all the commenters who said to be patient -- many a time I felt like giving up because nothing was happening. But I kept those comments in mind, and the comment about it being like going after that last bit of peanut butter in the jar. Like another video maker said, it's a bit of an art, so as I fiddled, repeating "What can be easier? What can be lighter?," I started to feel things moving, and then when the lock opened -- oh man! what a feeling! and right then my client walked in for the session I needed the locked room for. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The feeling i got when that lock turned and i got that garage door open knowing i haven't had to destroy the lock! I was so happy. Great little video that was a big help!! My tip for anyone trying this really is patience! I was about to give up abd drill it out but be patient and it will work. 😀

I bought a used truck with a utility box that was missing the key. The dealership refused to remove it or help me in any way and said I would need to go to the locksmith. So I did. The locksmith tried to make a key, then tried to pick the lock. Couldn't do it and said the lock was broken and I'd need to drill it out (charged me $23 and kept the key!). I got home, gathered my tools, hammer, crowbar, saw, drill, screw driver and was getting ready to physically remove it through brute force but decided at the last minute to watch this video. I made paper clip lock picks and yes, managed to open the plunger lock and got into the utility box! There was a nice set of tire chains inside. THANKS DUDE!

IT WORKS!!! Picked lock in under 40 min. Which is long, but give it time. Btw make sure you are applying torque while shoving the rack. Sometimes you may have the combo correct but you aren't applying the right torque. The torque can also be tricky but don't give up!

If your audience is supposed to be people who have never done this before, then you should perhaps drop a more obvious clue as to what you're doing when you start shaking the hell out of one of the paperclips. Why not show how the real tool works first, and explain what you're doing, before showing the makeshift tool? I mean, are you just shaking the pick, or turning it back and forth or what?
@thomasnunya5634

I wholeheartedly agree. To clear that up, he is pushing the rake in and out of the lock, dragging it across the pins, while slight tension is being given with the tensioner.

From a locksmiths perspective, in a survival situation where Amazon isnt available. These would work great, every lock is different in so any ways. People who think its three seconds to open a lock with proper picks is not well educated on the subject. Sure you can bump, use electric or manual pick guns and all sorts of other bells and whistles, but when it comes down to it. It takes as long as it take. As for this video, the tools would work if needed. They are not perfect but in a survival situation I would be happy to have them.

Why people comment about home burglary? This video is for in case you loose your keys or something. Obviously it doesnt matter if it takes long or makes a lot of noise, is not like you are robbing someone. If you think lockpicking and the first image is getting into someones home, you are so wrong and should stop doing harm. Spread love, the world needs it.

Early Cuyler No seriously! In North America the majority of the locks before 95 are similar as the test locks he has, They have standard pins the fact that you insert the beard of the key facing up makes it easier to pick because the pins fall back down by gravity where in Europe the beard faces down so you need to be very precise on the shear line and not in the sheer line. In mainland Europe since the 80s serrated or tapered pins are the norm in most North American locks to the mid 90s it's not. It's as if in North America they are more trustworthy than Europe where in the 80s we had an enormous wave of burglaries. Those locks he has there will not be found in a house here in The Netherlands or Germany as they won't pass certification. Guidelines to locks are a lot higher here trust me! Just try an average Eurolock. I bet it will be extremely hard to pick with a paperclip

yep it worked the funny part is it didn't take me as long as he did it only took me about 48 seconds. Thanks. The hardest part was finding paper clips that were thick enough the thin ones do not work. Lock pick tools would have saved me about 10-18 seconds though plus the time it took to create the lock picks made from paper clips. Great job.

Sorry guys but this does not work, paperclips are just too soft to get the job done. The only reason this worked on the video is because those locks have already been broken in by being picked a 1000 times and even then it took a decade to pick. With a normal pick set you can pick a broken in lock within 10 second if that. So in 99 out of a 100 cases the locks you end up picking will not be broken in. Waste of time.
@TheMadMedek
@TheMadMedek 10 жыл бұрын
Your completely wrong. I have picked a door lock 3 times at two different houses I lived at with paper clips. What this guy did wrong was he was jiggling the rake too much. Your supposed to rake the tumbler not jiggle them. That's why they call it a rake. I will agree use steel not aluminum paperclips.
@187GodKiller
@187GodKiller 10 жыл бұрын

***** So being a realist and just over all practical makes me a negative nancy, because I think paying $10 for professionally crafted spring steel picks is a better alternative to dicking around with some bullshit for hours on end, I am a negative nancy? I have tried this before you can pick locks but it's a fucking nightmare, and by the time you pick the lock with paperclips I can go drill out the lock replace it and make duplicates of the keys. You might not have anything better to do with your time than to spend 3 hours picking a lock with something that was designed to hold paper together but people who don't live in their moms basement have better things to do. You annoy me very much, but I'll even make a suggestion to help your stupid ass, use binder clips, you can take the clip handles off and reshape them with pliers, also you can't do it by hand even if you jack yourself off 20 times a day, it's made of spring steel and is almost of the quality used in professional lock picks. Now gtfo you're botherin me kid.

My point being, zombies aren't real. It is good to be prepared, but better to be wise. In Jesus' name you're healed. Ask the Holy Spirit into your heart and walk a new with a loving, Divine Father.

if you think you will succeed on your first try without spending time to learn the mechanics then you're not even trying hard enough. Lockpicking is still considered a skill and requires time and patience. Even the simplest locks won't open if you don't learn a squat about the process.

All the troublemaker's during the time I was in middle school used paperclips picks to get this.. pick the lock to .... switch the hallway lights on and off. Picking it tho was an awesome feeling.

On top of that most locksmiths here in germany don't even try to pick, they get their drill, drill out your lock and sell you a new one at a high prize, thus making my own set of emergency picks is worth both the effort and the increase of handiwork ^_^ btw, I managed to get hands on a gap measurement tool-block, I'll try and make an emergency kit from those by rasping them into the right shape :)

Maybe you come home from school or work one day and realize that you left your keys inside of your house and your parents/roommate have already locked the door before leaving. You would probably have some paper clips in your backpack or even bobby pins and no time/money to buy proper tools. Sadly, I've been locked out of my house more than five times just last school year. Most of which were on days where everyone was out till 2 hrs after me... during the winter. Glad I'm finally learning this.

Spring steel works really well for lock picks... the best "raw" material I've found is one of the tines off a street-sweeper. I don't suggest nicking one (illegal); you can frequently find a loose one by walking around the perimeter of a large commercial parking lot (grocery store, etc) that you know is often swept. Once harvested you can then stash the tines anywhere.. pushing them into dirt, potted plants, under siding, other spots so they are ready if you ever need one.

Usually, after school, I would just unlock my door with a key. For the past month, I've been using picks everyday instead. I've gotten really good at it. It is very handy for getting into a locked classroom when the teacher is late to class. haha

He's showing you how to pick. I would use 3 "bumps" on the pick with the biggest in the front, and have less length on the wrench insert for better feel on it, but you are getting the whole story in the video. This isn't BS, you CAN pick a lock with a paperclip.

I think it helps if you use vigorous hand wiggling action with the "rake", in and out, up and down, etc., while keeping steady tension on the "tension lever", so you don't lose any progress you've made on the tumblers with the rake. The "tension lever" holds pressure against the tumblers, which have springs behind them to make them return to their original positions. You don't want them to return until they've all been moved out of the way, and the knob turns. So,,steady pressure, and vigorous.
