Well, the thing about renting in Japan is that foreigners can't get apartments without valid long-term visas (and guarantors to sign on their behalf incase they get up and leave the country.) So if you're staying short term, your only options are guest houses, hotels, etc. Try staying a month in an actual hotel and you're guaranteed to be spending 3-4x as much as you'd spend staying here.
@Ciaela11 жыл бұрын
Yeah. A guest house and a hostel are the same thing, I think. Toilet, bath, shower, etc are shared, most people are backpackers or people just passing through town, but for your individual room (which is very minimal), the price is very affordable. :)

I stayed in a nice guest house in Kyoto when I was there. I also spent time in a ryokan in Nara that was an older building (a few hundred years old.) That was quite fun. My best experience was at business hotel in Osaka (one that normally caters to Japanese business people). They were incredibly nice to me and my room was massive for the price I paid. I like the bicycling idea of that fellow, I never even thought of it, but I will definitely consider it the next time I travel to Japan.

Hi Thank you for giving me a lot of fun by your videos! I had the first experience of staying a internet cafe at Akihabara last summer. I thought a guest house is very similar to a internet cafe as I don't really know about a guest house.

You know since your videos became travel related I enjoy them even more! You know how much I love traveling in Japan, right? ^__^ Kyah! Guy from Germany!!! Makes me happy to see somebody from my home country in Japan challenging himself! :D I've never ever stayed in a guest house. Luckily my first job already got me a proper apartment! :) So, it was very interesting to see in this video what it's like there!

I love your videos! I don't comment much, but I'm so happy for you being so successful in Japan. You are a huge inspiration for me; all of your videos just make me even more determined to get to Japan to study abroad and go after college and live/work for awhile! Also, that hot drink maker looks super cool. xD I love hot chocolate but I can never get it right so I might get one of those eventually!

Hey, nice, your uploads are getting more consistent. I learned something new, i didn't know about these "guest houses" but i guess they can be likened to "hostels" here in the United States or are there subtle differences?

I stayed at the Khaosan Tokyo Ninja guest house, walking distance from Akihabara for ¥2200 a night (about $23 Canadian)! Free tea and coffee, internet, Nintendo Wii, and English-speaking staff. So long as you don't mind a "dorm share" style sleeping room, this is a great home base for a Tokyo vacation.

The constant "mmm"'s you are saying from that drink is making me want some! Do they have that stuff in Canada, or do I have to get it shipped?
35$ a day is actually a lot for just a room. That's like 1000 bucks a month. Enough to rent a whole appartment or even a house in most other countries.

You could, but if you're staying around longer than a year, you probably have a good paying job and can afford an apartment. Without a visa, you can only stay up to 90 days (depending on which country you're from), and nobody will rent an apartment to someone who is only here 90 days...

When I go Japan I'm planning on staying at a ryokan in Tokyo. Don't you think it's a lot better? You would have to make your own meals and "share" a bathroom, but other than that it's really cheap per day.

There's a difference. You have to pay a cleaning fee, and usually guest houses are family owned or is part of their residence.
