He got out the easy way. He didn't have to suffer in prison for the rest of his life like he should have done.

I guess I can understand why they would top themselves imagine being found out of these crimes eating away at your mind then being in prison for the rest of your life, may as well exit.

ceroVK that's not why he did it. It had to do with one thing, his wife's inheritance. He had to commit suicide when he did, quite precisely to that point for her to access his NHS pension and other money. His wife never believed him to be guilty, but as his suicide neared she had started to have some doubts. It was now or never for shipman if he was going to be able to let his wife retire and live peacefully. He wanted his appeal heard, but the timeline of it meant his suicide was inexorable at precisely this point

The news anchor is playing to the emotions of the families involved because he doesn't want to let this attorney finish his thought. (Why this is dangerous): we have a chance to find out from the "horse's mouth" how these type of ppl get their charges reversed and are freed from the Justice system and go on to continue their murder crimes.

It's odd that the British public always find something comical in their serial killers, with all due respect to the victims families (who obviously don't). Maybe it's our way of coping with the diabolical. That and the fact they are often pathetic figures. American serial killers seem to put a lot more effort into the theatrical.
