ITV News Special- Princess Diana's body is moved to Kensington Palace

At 8.15pm on Friday, September 5 1997, the body of Princess Diana was taken from St. James's Palace to Kensington Palace the evening before her funeral. The Prince of Wales and Prince William and Harry followed the hearse. Tens of thousands stood along the route in near silence as rain fell with the darkness illuminated by thousands of flash bulbs. Princess Diana's remains left the mortuary after her remains had been embalmed and the body prepared by the undertakers. She was transferred to the Chapel Royal at St James Palace in London on the Monday after her death. There her remains were left in repose. On Friday 5th September 1997 it was transferred to Kensington Palace to be ready for the long funeral procession the following morning. Originally they planned to do this transport late at night, but they changed their minds, as they knew photographers would catch them
