It is without question that Perlman is the finest living violinist; perhaps the finest violinist ever. His performances are worthy of;" PERFECTION STATUS". I'm just saying that there a number of scores that differ. The Bach Toccata and Fugue in D Minor is a case in point.( BWV 565) I've seen several scores that are attributed to be the original from JSB. Who knows? There a number of Stradivarius violins hat have questionable origins as well.

I played this piece 3 years ago and let me tell you, it wasn't easy searching up versions of it and finding that an eight-year-old could do it a thousand times better than I could. I love to see professional pieces like this. It gives you something to aspire to and not feel like you suck at violin.

To my mind, if an 8 year old can play this piece well, that is in all likelihood evidence of child abuse. Someone would have had to FORCE a small child to practice an ABNORMAL amount of time to become proficient enough at such a young age to play this piece. I believe that that level of coercion, that much denial of a childhood, is child abuse.

I just played this tonight for my recital.. its an extremely technical difficult piece, especially the bow. those string crossing near the beginning of the allegro are insanely difficult to get clean, you have to really work. The staccato on the last page is also very difficult. I love Kreisler for his amazing ability to make something so musical but also so technical difficult. :) Also, Perlman does an amazing job.. of course.

It's really quite beautiful. Perlman always uses a lot of vibrato, but he does it so well! In addition, his intonation is usually perfect, as it is here. You just can't argue with his performance, like most everything he does, it's at the highest level of musicianship and artistry. It's a wonderful performance. Still, for sheer energy and youthful exuberance I would recommend listening to Leila Josefowicz at 13 perform this piece. It has it's own different sort of magic.

Lol thanks MrGuySnailz - just wanted to find out more from what you said. I love expressive pieces and have played some of the more maturely expressive ones too so I understood what we said. I'm guessing you are a violinist too? Have been busy reviving my playing as I have severely neglected it this year so I find the best way to bring the fingers back is to run through pieces like this. And tonight I was remembering how to play Tzigane - and also remembering that I never finished sorting out all the technical corners. Am planning to play at my own wedding in september but it will need to be a fairly tight performance (so wont be including anything too intensive probably Chardaz, scheherezade and a couple of other pieces) .
