As a young boy of 5 or 6, I heard the melody which begins at the 6:00 mark. From my childhood on, I was haunted by it and would often hum it. At last, at age 72, I am hearing it once more, by a true master violinist! At last, I have once more been captivated by this exquisitely beautiful music; at last, I know what it is! A timeless masterpiece!

What I have always loved about Perlman's playing is that, unlike that of old maestros like Heifetz or Kogan, it's so accessible to the layman audience. I don't mean to say that his music lacks sophistication or anything - far from it. I think we tend to forget that music was meant to be enjoyed by everyone, and not only those who have honed their taste for it through learning classical violin, piano, etc. As a means of communication, it's incredible how clearly Perlman always conveys what is in the music.

I wanted to add more comments to my previous comment. Mr. Perlman's "three finger bow hold" is another amazing thing I've seen on this video and others. He hardly uses his index and pinky fingers, despite his sound is so dynamic and yet sweet and warm full of emotion. Mr. Perlman is my favorite violinist! My 40 years of interest in classical music, I see there's nothing Mr. Perlman can't perform! From the day's just when the stereo cassette player came out in the late 70's in Japan, but high quality recordings of classical music in stereo was expensive (in the range of $30 per tape with only one piece. i.e Beethoven 4th). Now with internet, TrackID, etc. I can find so many piece that I couldn't find before and now even with video! No more moving parts! Everything records onto memory card. Things have really changed in such a short time. I am so lucky I lived to see Mr. Perlman's performance on video before I die! Thank you so much for posting such great pieces by Mr. Perlman!

There is something in Perlman‘s playing that touches me deeply. I don’t know how or why and I don’t need to know. It has certainly nothing to do with Perlman being “better” than other players, a value judgement some commentators seem able to make. I am just grateful. I’ve never heard him play live, so it’s good that there are so many wonderful recordings. Thank you for uploading this one.

That something in Perlman’s playing is not just the exquisite technique he has, but the love and enjoyment he feels and expresses while he is playing! 👏👏👏👏 What impeccable and purity of notes he extracts from his finest fiddle. Has been considered the best violinist today, or at least, he was one of the best ever. My sincere congratulations Mr. Pearlman. 👌👌👌

The way he holds the violin and places his thumb makes it seem like he is tickling it. Trully amazing! He is an example that violin "techniques" should be adjusted to the student's preferences.

I wonder how many will agree wirh me that this video is one of the most exceptional performances of Itschak Perlman. There are great performances of this composition by Pablo Saresate, but this one stands out as my favourite.

I highly disagree about this being one of Perlman's best performances. There are plenty that are much better.

Thanks for your opinion. I won’t differ with you. I just happen to love this particular performance. I never compare violinists against each other. It’s possibly his personality which appeals to me. He is an absolute master of his profession.

I cannot tell you how many times I've come back to listen to Itschak Perlman play this fantastic composition. He performs it so magnificently No wonder he is counted among the world's top violinists. Such a down to earth person too.

Sweet music to my ears like no other violinist the notes just flow like water in a stream.

Very emotional piece. I feel up to 7:49 the composer was trying to get across that the world is sometimes a harsh and unfair place, but then following 7:49 life and the world goes on and is filled with moments of fun and joy. Only Perlman could pull of this emotional heart string.

Sarasate isn't soo deep. Aires Gitanos (original name od he piece) was made as a virtuoso piece.

+Íñigo Aramburu Arnaiz maybe-maybe not (he is dead now, so who knows), but that is what i interpret out of this piece.....after all, the interpretation of a piece of music varies from person to person, hence why music is wonderful and not fixed to how one should feel

Frank Robinson , Actually listen to Sarasate's own recording of the piece, available on KZbin. He plays his composition as a little trifle, a mere show piece, not intending any true musical depth in it, just heart-on -sleeve, rather superficial little piece. That said, I love this piece because I think there is room in this world for all sort of music in the classical style. And at the same time, I truly admire Perlman's rendition of this piece, how much more depth he can put into this piece and justify it all. Just amazing! Hats off to him!

I discovered the musician just two years ago…. It was this specific recording that touched me in wanting to know more who this funny guy is….. Itzhak is a musician by nature, straight from the heart, and also very comedian in a way I immediately adopted him in my heart. Through this video I explored many more of his recordings. I really got excited when I found all kind of historic recordings of Itzhak Perlman together with….Pinchas Zukerman….( Pinky for Itzhak and friends). You definitely must see this recording @Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman - Grand Duo 1….. and also Grand Duo 2. Amazing…inspiring….impressing..all at the same time. Thank you for sharing these video’s!!
